I have to make it clear that I'm not from/in Australia. But the following should answer your non-AUS-specific questions.
First - I bought a DTA SRS and am <span style="text-decoration: underline">very</span> pleased with this purchase.
<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">I'm seriously looking at one, I have the money but its taken a lot of work and I don't want to buy the wrong thing at this stage...</div></div>
If you (a) love bullpups or at least are indifferent to them (and can appreciate greater mobility/portability and ergonomics of bullpups), and/or (b) want to use more than one caliber (e.g. the "ubiquitous 308" for daily practice and "long-reaching 338" for the fun of it
) - then DTA SRS should appeal to you. It's fairly easy (and not <span style="text-decoration: underline">that</span> expensive) to add more calibers to SRS, and you can "grow" your caliber family. Caliber change in the field is lightning-quick.
If you absolutely positively hate bullpups (it wouldn't make sense to me, but I know such people exist
), or if you intend to stick with one caliber for the foreseeable future - then perhaps a less expensive single-caliber rifle such as AE would be a better/cost-efficient choice.
<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">I spoke to a bloke at Cleaver Firearms today, he said the ones they had in stock do not have the monopod in the butt plate (so presumably they are an older version/specification?)..... (from what I understand, if you wanted to get the new monopod on an already purchased SRS you had to send the whole chassis back and pay for the parts, fitting and shipping...)</div></div>
As I understand, monopod is an <span style="text-decoration: underline">option</span> - you don't automatically get it unless you order your rifle with it (like I did), or send the rifle back to the factory and pay for parts, fitting and shipping.
<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">I also read that DTA are planning a higher capacity magazine for the SRS, any word on whether this will be 'plug-and-play' with the currently avaliable chassis?</div></div>
From what I heard, the new magazine shall be 'plug-and-play' with the current chassis (wouldn't make sense any other way).
Hope this helps - and take a look at
this DTA SRS thread. It covers a lot of SRS questions.
