All SRS owners and future owners-

DTA has been looking at making a .408 CheyTac conversion kit available for the SRS. I spoke with Ethan today (great sales guy at DTA), and he said that they aren't sure that the chambering can be made safe enough given the fixed diameter of the barrel extension.

It seems like this comes down to engineering. Maybe if enough of us chime in with our overwhelming desire to have this caliber available for the SRS they will sharpen their pencils. Of course, it could be that they already have and it just can't work. It sure would make a sweet platform even better. The greatest rifle ever?

I think we should wait for SHOT. Trying not to speak for Nick and DTA, but they know this is a desired caliber (along with variants).

Let's just hope of they do make a larger one you can get conversions for smaller calibers still.

I've been saving for one of these. And like the switch barrel setup alot. Would be nice to have the same everything but a practice barrel/ Caliber. And the bigger/ comp setup

Re: desert tactical in .408 cheytac!!!

That's one of the reasons that I got one. I was looking at a Barrett Bravo 98 and the AI in 338. I went with the DTA so that I could shoot it a lot w/o having to pony up for the Lapua ammo (I don't reload-yet) I have 300 win mag and 338 conv. kits.

Keep saving- me thinks its worth every penny.

I don't know, mabey it's their "mountain rifle" for those armored grizzlyes!! I like my 12 pound .308 though.

I'd really like to see a smaller platform optimized for short-action 30cal and under, using AW magazines preferably.

YOU TEASE!

I opened this topic thinking I was going to find someone who figured out how to do it. I hope DTA figures out a way to do it on the existing chassis, I don't want to sell my other kidney to buy a 2nd one.

Re: desert tactical in .408 cheytac!!!

I'd be game if DTA can find a way to incorporate it into the current SRS safely. Also, I would certainly be game for a "beefier" SRS built to handle the 408CT or larger cartridges that could also be compatible with the 338LM, 300WM, 308WIN, etc., etc.

As for the weight/recoil issues...I figure the rifle would be 16lbs give or take with a 29" or so barrel, optics, etc. With an effective muzzle brake or a can, I don't figure that the recoil would be unmanageable.
