After lugging around a 20lb pig of a match rifle my plans to build a short subsonic 308 veered off course and became a diet 6.5creedmoor.
Finished product, weighs in at 11 lbs according to a scientific bathroom scale
-Custom built McRee folding chassis weighing in under 3lbs. AR style stock shed over 1 pound from the standard McRee and there was quite a bit of metal milled out of the already shorted fore grip. The total weight savings was 2 lbs on the chassis alone. The idea started during shot show with Scott McRee over steaks, Crown Royal and this was the result.
-Rem700 short action (standard bolt for the time being due to budget constraints) PTG 1 piece bolt in the future.
-20" Rock Creek rem varmint 1/8 6.5mm barrel. Could not work with anything shorter than 24" before the inboard spider was built. That caused a little delay.
-USO 1.8x10 slimline ERGO MOA/MOA saving 1 lb over a full size optic
-2 piece cheap-o base
-Timinny trigger
- JP recoil eliminator, since the rifle weighs in at only 11 lbs, I wanted one of the most effective brakes on the market to reduce as much hop as possible.
Initial tests were promising with 2670 out of the standard 139gr scenar 41.6gr of H4350 creedmoor load most of us run. 2750+ is easily obtainable with a 1gr powder increase. A slight ejector swipe started to appear at 43.1gr. Shots 2-6 down the barrel produced a .7moa group with no load development and a heavy trigger.
Eventually it will be hydro dipped in some camo pattern but for the time being I think the unfinished silver and black looks kinda cool. Ignore the bi pod
