Difficulty to complete 80% lower?

Re: Difficulty to complete 80% lower?

I have never done it personally, but my machinist buddy said it was very difficult to get exact, and not worth his time...he said the mag well was the most difficult part to get right...he said,"very hard"

Re: Difficulty to complete 80% lower?

First, if you are talking about an ar15 lower this is the wrong section to put it in. The right one is just below this one. Second, its not to hard it if you follow the template( the mag well is the hardest to do) You can google it to find several walkthroughs. Just put all of your info on it before you use it(just like you would if you were SBR'ing a rifle).

Re: Difficulty to complete 80% lower?

buddy of mine just did one and found that it's not very difficult...if you have the proper tooling. All he has is an inexpensive drill press and xy vice...not the best setup to complete the project but it works.

You'll want to get the jigs, high quality bits and a heavy duty drill press...best if you have access to a milling machine.

If you're wanting a project, great or if you don't want to fill out a 4473 not a bad option. But if you're trying to save some money, it's not going to happen for one or two....maybe if you were to do 10 of them you could save some money.

I'll be working on mine in the next couple weeks...I'll let you know then. To be honest, I'm not foreseeing any issues...but I've got some machining background.
