Let me start by saying this isn't my first Dillon machine, I have a lot of stuff including an SL900, power trimmer, 450/550, swager, etc. Yesterday $2200+ of Super 1050 & a conversion kit showed up, and I started putting it together this morning. First impression: the instructions aren't what they should be. For a machine of this complexity there really need to be more pictures, and amplification of minor points like where the washer for the bottom post should be installed. About the time I was getting frustrated with the instructions I noticed that there was a catalog in the box. Hoping to find a better picture of how the case feeder should be set up I opened to that page. And there was a picture of an instruction DVD available for only $20. WTF? Dillon is selling the bare bones machine for $1639, and they want another $20 for the instruction manual, which is not even listed on the web page. It is probably just as well that the gent who took my order didn't mention supplying the instruction DVD for only another $20, because I probably would have cancelled the order right then. I must say I am really disappointed, because this is not the kind of customer care I have received from Dillon over the years. Nickel and diming customers like this is going to cost them big time in the long run.

Re: Dillon Super 1050 disappointment

I have 2 RL1050's a XL650. No issues and have had them for over a decade. Never heard of charging for a manual as I just download them from the website. The videos are a good value and learned more from them than the manual anyways.

The casefeeder is pretty idiot proof as there's only one way it can work.

They probably don't include the DVD as someone would bitch about paying $1659 for a machine that has a DVD and how they don't have a DVD player where they have the machine.

That said, it's not that complex of a machine and if there's any questions, I'd be happy to help out as well as the guys at Dillon if you just call.

I have a feeling its more a function of attitude than their service since they've tuned both of my 1050's for years...for free.

Re: Dillon Super 1050 disappointment

I was in Scottsdale last month and stopped in at Dillon. They had 4 people standing behind the counter and not one of them helped me. They were all talking about some gal and I left empty handed. I wasn't too impressed either.

Re: Dillon Super 1050 disappointment

I have only had one dillon, bought on a special offer, cheap.
I had it less than a week. Dillon not so cheerfully refunded my money. I went to a Lee 1000...Very happy, no problems, thousands of rounds.

Re: Dillon Super 1050 disappointment

Traded a Dillon for Lee...Want to trade anything else?

Been a Dillon user for over 25 years including a 1050. These guys rock and have contributed lot to the shooting sports for many many years.

YMMV

Re: Dillon Super 1050 disappointment

When I upgraded from a Pro-Jector to a 550, I didnt know WTF I was doing after I opened the box. The poor SOB at Dillon CS stayed on the phone with me and walked me through EVERYTHING for about 20 minutes. I managed to break the primer retaining pin and the guy sent me 2 new ones along with extra primer pick up tubes and a few other things. I've broken a few little things here and there and every time I call I get extra tidbits sent to me. I like Dillon. A lot. Their presses are a pleasure to use.

Re: Dillon Super 1050 disappointment

Dillon has a free call help line, give them a buzz if you are stuck with their machine, I called once and got the problem sorted real quick and easy.

Re: Dillon Super 1050 disappointment

Everyone has varying degrees of mechanical ability. My guess is that if they had to produce a set of instructions to meet everyones ability/inability it would weigh more than the machine. I have a 650 with most, if not all the options. I took my time setting it up and it took maybe 4 hours but that was all me being diligent. The instructions that came with all of my blue stuff were great. As a matter of fact, its been three years or so but I seem to remember being a little annoyed at the level of detail of the instructions. I am somewhat dyslexic and it took me six times as long to read the instructions than to put the thing together.

All in all, my experience with Dillon has been a joy. Like one of the guys said above, I had a problem which we worked out over the phone. Just an adjustment but there was a part involved that the tech rep said does wear out so he sent me one. If I remember correctly, I had about 1K rounds through the thing at that point. Nothing was even close to wearing out yet. Up to that point I've never had that kind of service from anybody, regardless of the product. I was pleasantly shocked. To tell you the truth, I felt a little guilty like I had gotten more than I deserved.

OP, call them. Something sounds fishy. That is a huge departure from the experiences that I have had and that most other people relate. Something doesn't sound right.

Good Luck.

Re: Dillon Super 1050 disappointment

I won my 550 at a shooting match, so I agree that Dillon supports the industry. I've loaded tens of thousands of pistol rounds on that thing over the years and its never needed anything but an occasional cleaning. Love my Dillon.

Re: Dillon Super 1050 disappointment

I have two Dillon 550's. They are great products. A couple of years ago while on vacation in AZ, I stopped by the Dillon shop. They gave me a tour of the factory and answered all of my questions. Great company, with amazing products.

Re: Dillon Super 1050 disappointment

I own 3 1050s one in 9mm, one in 223 and the other in 308 and I've been loading thousands of rounds for the past 15 years. Give Dillon a call and their customer service will help you get you set up.
