dillon swagger??????? 223 not swagging

I have a Dillon swagger for primer pockets. I ran a bunch of brass through and then began priming the brass. After about 25 rounds I have 8 of them not allowing me to seat the primer. I am using a rcbs hand primer. What gives. Are there some types of brass that just cant be swagged.

I've had this issue as well. For me it was the brass being from different batches, you may need to adjust the swaging arm a little deeper to remove enough of the crimp to seat primers.

Just adjust the anvil a little further out (deeper swage).

Be sure and sort by headstamp. Set swager then adjust when you get to the next brass. I've got a rcbs swage kit and stupid me decided to not adhere to the warning about mixing headstamps. Well after about 25 pieces I noticed it was getting hard to push the brass into the rod. I took the die apart and it was bent to shit. Whoops.

When I was in the Corps, an old Gunny made us recite the following mantra: "R..., T..., F..., M...!!!".

This stands for (politely edited...) "Read The Field Manual...!".

After I swage, I keep a de-burring tool and a reamer handy while I prime. If I get one (or eight) that are a no go, I touch them up by hand. I've never bothered re-adjusting my Dillon swager.

I often have better luck if I trim all my brass to the same size before swagging too.

I found that differing lots/manufacturers have different flashing lengths around the primer pocket, inside the case. This can cause some difference, though there is more difference between brands/manufacturers (as mentioned) that requires tuning the swager tool.
