Has anyone on here reloaded on an XL650 without the case feeder? I am looking to pick a 650 but don't quite have the funds to get the casefeeder too. It is definitely something that I will get within a month or two, but I want to make sure loading isn't going to be a total p.i.t.a in the mean time. Thanks!

Re: Dillon XL650 *without* casefeeder

I have the 650 with the case feed. Use it for my .45s and run about 900 rounds an hr. It will produce more if you prep all the primer tubes. It will still impress you w/o the case feed. Great machine for .45. I have yet to try mass produced .223.

Re: Dillon XL650 *without* casefeeder

I load 308 on my 650, and 45 on my 550 (don't ask). With casefeeder and RCBS Chargemaster, it's amazing.

All that said, if I were you, I'd buy a Hornady LnL AP with casefeeder instead. I like my Dillon, but the Hornady is at least just as good. In fact, it has a number of things that make it better.

Re: Dillon XL650 *without* casefeeder

Never tried my 650 w/o casefeeder but based on previous post looks like its no problem but I can't imagine not having one...damn all you have to do is pull the handle and never remove your hand from that handle. Save up and buy the feeder quick, is what I say.

Such as?

I actually have a LnL that I like and Hornady support has been great. Just curious what you think is better on it than a Dillon.

I've gone into this at length in other threads here, so do some snipergoogling for more depth...

No toolhead rattle
Quickly change PART of a setup, rather than the whole toolhead
the powder measure is better (ball valve type as opposed to sliding bar)
Indexing timing is different and doesn't bounce powder out when it indexes
Shell retention spring makes it easier to remove/replace shells, though it is a wear part and you must keep extras
No unused primer "chute" - which is strange/crappy on 650
Spent primer exhaust tube works great
No sympathetic primer detonation issue like 650
Heavier duty, though the 650 is plenty stout
Cheaper
No powder measure linkage
Powder measure just lifts off, no tools/screws/linkage

Can't think of the rest. The 650 is great, but the LnL is too!

Yeah, will work, but like shooting a machine gun without a mag or belt and hand feeding them into the gun. but, good way to get the machine and then add the feeder later.

I have the 650 with case feeder. I can get about 300 rds done in under an hour. Don't know how I got along without it!
