DIY Shuffleboard Table

Been thinking about making one. Got some live edge cedar slabs. Might do a river table/ epoxy concept. I realize this is not the “professional” way with say a hard maple surface. I’ve been doing a little research. McClure Shuffleboard site has been useful.

I used to play shuffleboard with on of my Great-Uncle's, many years ago. He got one that a Legion was parting with. It had the 'illuminated score-board above the middle of the table. Biggest/nicest/grandest shuffleboard table I'd ever seen, in his basement.

I’m looking at something in the 8-9’ range. Maybe you were talking about something like this.

I used a Woodpecker Slab Flattening Mill to flatten a glued-up 9' walnut slab. Kind of expensive, but
you could probably make one with a homemade sliding router table to flatten it.
You can of course use a surface planer (I have a 20"), but that may still leave some twist, the router does a nice job of making it flat.

Post pics if you do one, I might do a live edge river coffee table.

So, my slabs are +\- 1” thick. I was planning to make the playing surface 2” thick with the slabs buried in the epoxy. Hopefully eliminating the need for a lot of fine finishing to the wood. Yes,no,maybe?
Some experimental layouts. Probably wind up not doing the center pieces. Don’t know yet.

The river. I don’t know. The blue thing seems a bit over done. Ain’t seen too many blue rivers here in Texas. I thinking LEDs under the river also. I’m very early in the planning stages

What’s that one river you texans are particularly proud of. It looks a lot like clay mud to me

As to slab mills. These guys have this. I know nothing about its quality or capabilities compared to the Woodpecker.

I have the Woodpecker slab mill. Works great. I used to use a homemade router sled. Either way you're going to get the job done. The Woodpecker rig is much more user friendly with lots of nice-to-haves.
