I have had 2 USO scopes (SN3 3.2-17 and the SN3 3.8-22) that the cross hairs are too thick to use effectively at the MAX magnification and too congested to use at the MIN magnification. Is this a problem with me or have others encountered this also?

Nope..not at the top end at least. Love my sn-3s... Never use it below 6x so I guess I don't run into the bottom end issu either. What reticle are u using?

When you say the x hair is to thick, too thick for what target? If you're ringing steel I'm sure they are fine, if you are trying to shoot a 5" X-ring at 1000 yds, then maybe so

Rather than speculating, let's look at some real pictures.

Scope USO 3.2-17x44mm T-Pal Mil Gap reticle:

At 17x:

Range to the trees in the background, 115 yds.

I see a reticle that is eminently usable throughout it's power range. If the reticle were finer/smaller, it could not be used for reticle holds @ 3.2X.

It the reticle too fat/big @ 17x? Depends I guess on what you want to use it for. For tactical matches it is a very good reticle.

I have 2 IOR 3-18X scopes. One is FFP and the other is SFP. I understand what you're saying - comparing the two reticles at max or min magnification there is a difference. But I would still say the FFP is completely effective. I have compared objects at 800-1000 yds and for me could not discern a difference in being able to hit because of the reticle in either.

Old Man,

Since Jim did not answer you, he was talking about two US Optics scopes. All USO scopes are FFP, as is the through the scope pictures I presented.

I have the 1.8-10x37mm tpal with the c2 reticle. Pictures of one like it can be seen here. http://www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=2333599
running around outside my house looking at things with it, anticipating rings to mount it, I find it to be pretty awesome really. No it isn't a ultra fine varmint reticle, but shouldn't have any problem ever seeing one bigger than a crouching gopher with it.
