Suppressors Does a suppressor booster need a break in?

I just picked up an Omega 36m and am having cycling issues with a P320. I understand the 36m isn't light and the 320 isn't an ideal host, but I've got a couple of questions I hope someone may have some insight on.

When getting the 36m, I bought a silencerco barrel for my berretta 92fs and a faxon barrel for my 320. The 92 fs runs with everything I've thrown at it. At first the 320 wouldn't cycle at all. I picked up a new guiderod, a 12 lb,and 10 lb recoil springs. Even with a 12lb recoil spring it wouldn't cycle. I switched to the 10 lb spring and it still stove pipes but won't chamber rounds due to the lack of forward pressure.

Silencerco pistons are impossible to find at the moment so I picked up a rugged due to compatibility. Ive greased everything and have movement in the booster. Does the piston need broken in? Could I have a bad barrel? Or is suppressing the 320 just not in the cards for me trying to use a 36m?

I can't tell you definitively, but when I put my Rugged Obsidian 9 on my Sig M17...I just started putting rounds down-range. I will say that my M17 prefers 165gr subsonic ammo, but will also shoot 147gr subsonic.

I did not do anything other than screw the suppressor on and pew pew pew!

I've never experienced a need for break in. 45 and 9mm across a few makes and models that I shoot.

I’ve used a Wolfman on a P320 C with the Silencerco barrel. Using hand loaded subs, I couldn’t get reliable cycling at all. Greased it some more and switched to 124gr and it got better, but still far from reliable. So all that to say, I think it’s definitely possible that break in may be necessary with a non-pistol specific can.

It won’t be as quiet, but what about running some +p ammo through the Sig to see if the extra pressure helps?

I could give that a try, but as you pointed out, it defeats the purpose.

Can't remember who makes it, but the only stuff I could find to make my 320 run reliably with a can was some 165gr subsonic 9mm.

Capitol 165gr subsonic? If so, that is what my M17 runs quite well...

Sounds like the juice isn't worth the squeeze for suppressing the 320.

I had a Rugged 9 with the same issues on a Sig 226. It would be flawless on a Mk25 slide and unreliable on an optic cut slide and they recommended lower # on the recoil spring which worked. It is counter intuitive but after you realize it is a timing, weight, ammo, slide velocity and spring rate to make a pistol reliable it's best to try the manufacturers concept.

My 320 AXG combat wouldn't cycle with either my Obsidian or SiCo Osprey with the stock captive recoil spring. I ditched it out for the Armoury Craft 13lb spring and rod kit, and it's been flawless with every 9mm round I've put through since.

No not on the 320. I went as low as a 12lb recoil spring. It wasn't strong enough to put the slide into battery, but also would not cycle with my 36m attached. I have since picked up a cz P-09 with a threaded barrel. The 36m doesn't cause any issues on the CZ, so far its 100% reliable. I'm just chalking it up to the p320 sucks as a suppressor host.

That became an expensive test for you! I'm glad to read you found a different path forward that works for you.

I like that CZ P-09 with the 5.2" threaded barrel. It looks relatively the same size as a "full size" P320, which is what I think you were working with. I think the best warranty I've ever seen on a handgun was (is? still in effect? dunno) the Walther P series "No Questions Asked" full refund policy for I think it was 30 days. Dont like it, for any reason? Return it for a full refund. I had to avail myself of that policy one time, and they honored it. It was an LGS purchase, and of course I was out some money. But, I got most of it back when I turned in the now used handgun. I was very glad Walther allowed it, and I will purchase from them again for their goodwill.
