Does anyone add bigger knobs to their rimfire bolts?

I made a knob a while back when I was in machining for my marlin 880sq. it was a slip on that I had a buddy tig weld onto the shank.

I have since made new thread on versions and am curious to know if anyone else does this? my knob adds about 1/2 in to the shank of the bolt and is shaped similar to a badger style but not as big.

i am working on an adapter to cut/drill/tap instead of cut/dremel/chase shank with die. Should extend knob better for quicker bolt cycling.

I added one of the cheap rubber covers to my Tikka T1 bolt and it made a huge difference.
Between the grippy rubber and the larger size it was much easier to work the bolt quicker.
I now have a Sterk swept handle which works even better.

No reason for it to make any less difference on a rimfire than it does to a centrefire

I used a Tactical Operations bolt knob on my CZ452 following a series of disappointing encounters with companies. Cut off the round bit, squared the face, drilled the hole and used Devcon to hold the stub (the alternative is silver solder).

Big improvement in cycling with this action.

Here is my next part to make installation simpler. Cut knob, square, drill, tap 8-32 & install adapter for 1/4-20
I like the idea but I think it will be short lived as 8-32 is a pretty small cross section for this application and the shear forces that will be involved. Keep us updated as I'm curious how long it will last. The industry standard is 5/16-24 threads.

Look at the Tactical Operations connector for size - but shear forces are minimal on a rimfire. Also drilling and tapping is a nice to have but sometimes the bolt handle metal is not up to that level of sophistication.

have seen pics of hand carved Opel and jade bolt nobs online , but can't remember where as well as gold and silver.even though this is a gear shift nob it could make a neat bolt nob all the same

I am making these to be used primarily on rimfire, most bolt shanks I have seen on rimfire are 1/4" or close. and when I was using a die to make threads 1/4-20 was an easy to find die. I am also trying to keep the size to scale for rimfire. I am not trying to make another industry standard part.

I just ordered a CZ rubber ball for my 455. Cheap, easy and feels good. I'll know more ounce I take it to the gopher fields in a couple months.
