I am about 25 rounds into my first AR-15(panther bull 20 .223, jp trigger), and while saving brass i have noticed a lot of damage, like dings & dents on the shoulder, scratches the length of the case, etc. since I'm new to the platform, I'm not sure if thats just the way it is, or if it can be corrected... anything for the AR newbie would be great.

Well, the way the AR10 and AR15 platform digests ammo, they tend to be fairly hard on brass. Magazine lips, feed ramps, receiver lugs, extractor, brass deflector......they all take their blows on brass.

A TUBB CWS (carrier weight system) can sometimes help, it slows down the recoil of the bolt. You can place some adheasive velcro (soft loop side) on the brass deflector as well.
