I searched, but could not find a thread about PMAGS for the DPMS 308 platform

I just finished building a 7mm-08 and the rounds need help to load...
running an A2 stock with a Tubb flatwire spring..

I could have sworn I had read some where on here that the PMAGS do better if you give them some graphite on lips/follower.....

Or if anyone has any other tips, I'd appreciate it.

It just doesn't quite want to strip the round from the mag... if I pull the CH back about 1/4" and let go, it'll finish going into battery...

Re: DPMS LR308 P-MAG questions

My DPMS 260 doesn't like to function if I don't drop the bolt with the catch or by pulling the CH enough to drop the bolt catch.

I haven't had any success with dry graphite on the lip of 1 of them, so I didn't bother with the other 2 that I had. If you figure out a way to make it function smoother though, please let me know.

hmmmmm, same mags as when it was a 308 and the PMAGS worked the best then.... I did change the spring, but the Tubb spring sure "feels" stiffer......

Re: DPMS LR308 P-MAG questions

Are the mags loose or tight in the magwell? If they are loose it could be that they sit ever so slightly too low and the tips of the bullets are catching on something, maybe hitting just below the feedramp. The buffer spring should have more than enough force to strip a round from the mag, in fact it should make the bolt come forward like a sonofabitch.

Try easing the bolt forward by hand (pull the charging handle back and then slowly let it foward) and watch how the rounds come out of the mag. I had a similar problem and it was because the hollow point tips were hitting an imperfection in the feedramps.

I am going to shoot this morning, I will take a look, thank you...

slash buffer?

Re: DPMS LR308 P-MAG questions

Slash buffers are heavy weighted carbine size buffers that most UBR stock users need. I have a standard A2 stock, but the slash's added weight solved my cycling issues.

Re: DPMS LR308 P-MAG questions

I realized my mistake/stupidity.....

My LR-308 was originally a carbine,
I switched to an A2 stock and threw in an AR A2 buffer without realizing it was too long....

When I went to swap the spring I realized it.

A quick measurement told me I needed to cut 3/4" off the buffer,
some quick lathe work and a drill bit later and it was the right length.

100 rounds this morning that fed and ejected flawlessly...
(with 3 different P-MAGS, I <span style="font-weight: bold">DID NOT</span> lube any of them....)

One note, I ran the stock A2 spring and could swear I felt the buffer hitting the end of the tube,
I put the Tubb spring in, and I no longer felt it hit, and the feeding felt "more positive"

Another reminder that I still have lot's to learn....

Re: DPMS LR308 P-MAG questions

I had this problem with my DPMS .308 when I switched from a carbine stock to the prs. I believe that DPMS makes a rifle length buffer spring specifically for their rifles that is correct; the standard rifle length A2 spring is to long.
