Drugs used during WW II

Yup. Amphetamine, in the form of Benzadrine, was used by Germans and eventually by US troops there as well. The Hells Angels was started post WWII after the Harley Davidson riding troops got back. They also had a bunch of Benzadrine and began to call is "speed" when you took it, it gave you the feeling of riding a motorcycle at high speed.

I seem to recall US pilots hitting a gondola cable in Italy and killing people. Part of the pilots defense was the speed they were issued to deal with their flight schedules.

Tweakers in junky cars..... pilots on speed in super hornets - what’s the difference.

In a skate/ surf video the kids who were surf rats in the 1950s talked about buying surplus survival kits from surplus stores as many still had a bottle of speed in the kit.
