Coddled in a test tube, shelterd from reality, and unleashed upon the world.
Or is it easier to say “college graduate”.
It blows my mind that parents support their kids to go deep in debt for an art degree, comms degree, -insert low wage degree-, when they know damn well they'll never get any real return on investment, and be smothered by student loans for fucking decades. The root of the problem: the parents.
I wouldn't throw stones at a higher education. I'd throw them at what the atmosphere on most college campuses has become, absolute anathema to anything but "progressive" thought. It's become an attempt to pervert American culture towards liberalism by indoctrinating its decision makers. No, a college education, stripped of all the Che Guevara shit, is a fine thing. It's just really hard to find the pearl in the oyster any more.
I would have went for why rabbits do it so fast. Slow down enjoy the ride.I know how she could make a fast $10 bucks that she could put towards her worthless education, personally I would of majored in why frogs fuck.

Who the lenders are being backed by is more than part of the problem. This isn't the fault of the college. It's not the college's job to raise children. Don't lump all graduates into the same box. What blows my mind is that lender's are willing to loan out that kind of money to an 18-22 year old. Would that same kid be able to get that loan for anything else? A business? I doubt it. There is a serious problem with making it so easy for someone with little to no financial experience to take out loans that high. Kind of reminds me of the housing crash, where we gave out home loans for people who could not afford it. Why we don't have lower caps on education loans, I'll never figure out. If she needed that much money to attend that university, she clearly could not afford it. Why she thought taking out $200k in loans was a better idea than serving 4 years of her life in the Air Force first, I don't understand. I doubt that is the only school that offers a degree in speech pathology. She could have gone to community college first, followed by a state school. She is in that much debt because society allowed her to be. Her parents allowed her to be.
I've found that if I plant pepper seeds in my garden, I tend to harvest peppers later on. This generation is the harvest, and we are simply seeing what was planted by her parents generation.
She's VOLUNTEERING for Bernie...
Volunteering.
She's apparently educated above her own intelligence level. Too much of that thing around.
Instead of volunteering, maybe getting a job, any kind of job would begin to eliminate that debt.
Instead, like Veer pointed out, she thinks someone else should foot the bill so she can continue living well above her means.
You can't fix something that stupid.
Maybe porn will be her way out...
There are 4 subjects the average parent is scared shitless to discuss with their children.
Sex
Drugs
Guns
Finances
This falls under the Finances category.
You hear people tell children all the time "you can be anything you want"
NO!! You can not. At least that is how it was explained to my daughter. It takes $Xxxx a month to run this house. If you enjoy the life style I have provided you will need to same.
She has understood this from the age of 10-12. Everytime she has had a "dream" I have responed with "great, how do you make money doing that".
She has actually done research and found out that you don't. And the dream was gone.
I will support her in anything if she can show me a plan that leads to her being successfull part of society. That doesn't mean she needs to be a billionaire, if she is happy and enjoys what she is doing. But she will NOT be on welfare.
Well, in all fairness, being a speech pathologist is a VERY attainable goal, but she didn't need to go to a $50k+/year school to get that degree. 2 years of community college followed by 2 years at a public school, while working, would get her that same degree, in a field that is not competitive enough to need a $200k school.
The path we take to achieve our goals is just as important as the goal itself.
Ya, your forgetting a ton of other expenses

BTW that isn't a rifle leaning against the pickup above...

BT, DT. I wasn't "forgetting" anything. I was screencapping official information from their website for public consumption. I'm quite well aware of the cost of textbooks and air travel for study overseas, believe you me.
Was really trying to get you to tell which kind and where/what you were fishing for.No a fly rod.. But he has some of his rifles. The school will store up to 3 long guns. @Tactical Taz runs UW's Precision Rifle club..
It may have been a less taxing avenue towards a degree at a truly competitive university. Even Harvard has an ECE (Early Childhood Education) program.
Look I agree asking and expecting for money or a free-ride is BS.. but lets put 250K in context. It really isn't much by todays 4 year schools and 1/2 or less than some.
My shooting buddy is now @ the University of Wyoming.. It actually has one of the strongest Mandarin programs.. But truth be told, I could not afford for him to go to an Ivy league school.

We are doing it on the cheap.. bought him a old farm truck for transportation 2k.. nothing fancy.
We pay a shit lode of Taxes, and still his education is costing ME about $225K ... between those things, I feel a bit cash poor.. BUT that was MY choice, I had the ability to pay the price. BTW our CC's didn't offer the Mandarin program he needed with his Econ.. Neither he nor I will be paying for collage loans after he graduates.
Reminding everyone this was one of the cheapest schools - The school system might be broken with museum like buildings and in some cases runaway salaries. But they also give a ton of education away to those with less means.. so people who can't pay are already able to get an education.. Yep, it is because guys like me that have to pay an artificially high price.
The smell test is that "if" she has that much collage dept, she has parents with means. They either aren't paying, or actually the ones that will pay the loan. That was their choice and we should NOT have to pay for it..
Bernie's idea of funneling more of MY money into taxes is not a solution but a bandaid...and it will bankrupt the country.
His plan actually rewards the entitled..and spoiled little liberals....

Good lord that is quite the number it is costing you. I often forget all the other expenses that a parent often has to burden. UW is one of the better schools. In state is way better than out of state tuition also. I cant imagine all the other expenses at another school. I have been able to go through school so far debt free. For the price, I will continue the education. If I was racking up even a little bit of debt, off to industry it would be. The most I paid a semester was about 1200 for tuition and books.
Anathema???? Did anyone else have to look that one up?

$120 haircut and $15 worth of makeup on her face. I can see why she has financial issues and is looking for absolution in Socialism.
Here's a little story that broke the camel's back.
I dated my 1st wife for 5 years during that time I put 2 of her 3 daughter's through college.
One went to the university of Tennessee and the other went to George Mason university.
I was young and didn't know much about the college scene, but I had a good job and wanted to help.
I noticed a difference in both girls about a year and a half into it.
During the 4th year me and mom got married and things changed.
I came home early from work one day and noticed some official looking mail.
I opened the letter and was mortified to see that my now wife signed papers for parent backed student loans.
$410K worth
I confronted the wife about it and she replied that the kid had to have money to live on while in school,( yeah 103k a years worth)
"Earning a PHD is serious business and she can't be distracted by work or worrying about rent, food etc."
We were married 6 months when I filed for divorce, the judge explained to soon to be ex wife that I wasn't liable for the loans,or the othe 30k in CC debt.
Here we are 15 years later and neither of the girls have a job in their fields.
One is working in a gym, the other is trying to find herself, she has went from being a vegan to a Muslim (dated a black guy) to becoming a Jew (dating a Jew).
These are the people that are going to be passed the reins someday.
Now,back to daughter #3,she put herself through school, became a Veterinarian and is contributing to society.
Anathema is also a band.
Older music is hard to listen to. The stuff from 2009 and on is pretty good.
