Unknown, I'm going to take a jab at this. Your query is something that I've spoken to Eddieo about, specifically. Thing is though, it was 'some time ago', so bear with my memory.
It appears that the "judicial" side of the country and the "enforcement" side of the country are not actually "connected" they way they seem to be here in North America. I cannot stress enough, that everybody needs to remember that this is Ireland we're talking about. They REALLY do things different over there. (So much so, that they not only drive on the wrong side of the road, but they fly on the wrong side of the sky, too)
The High Court is one aspect of society there, whereas An Garda Siochana is a complete other. What we would call/compare a 'sheriff's department' would be the group to 'enforce the laws'. Over there, the local constabulary not only 'enforce the laws', but also pursue people based on personal bias and prejudice. And greed, it seems. [they don't have a Constitution to take an Oath, to.]
Short version is, he said that the High Court is really REALLY pissed at the Garda, for overstepping their bounds by assuming both roles, as opposed to what they are actually hired to do so. The manner in which 'civilians' were pursued as well as certain methods used in creating this whole debacle to begin with, was actually under the pervue of the judiciary. The manner in which so many things festered, as well as so many things were covered up has pissed off the judges too.
I doubt very much of what I'm saying is making any sense. Suffice to say, that when the whole story is able to be aired, you'll all see how a certain group of corrupt folks were re-inventing the laws of physics to make 2+2 equal the square-root of zero multiplied by the hypotenuse of the diameter. It helps when everyone remembers that the defendants are, and have been, Legal, Law Abiding, Firearm Owning Citizens. And what brought this on, is the view from An Garda Siochana that NOBODY should own/possess firearms. So crimes that DID happen by the actual criminal element of society were then linked (wrongfully) upon these boys, with the hopes and intentions that the boys would simply roll-over because the cost and effort of defense is/was insurmountable. AND to add to that, the steps and measures taken by the Garda to further their agenda, as well as cover up what they had done/were doing only made things worse.
And the longer things went on, as well as the further The Boys achieved in maintaining/proving their innocence, the deeper and worser the Garda went to covering up their actions AS WELL AS shifting the blame AND worsening the situation.
