Hey guys, I have one of the SH IOR scopes from the buy a couple years ago. Hadnt used it much, but as anyone who has one knows, there is a mounting issue.

I currently have both rings forward of the turrets so I can get proper eye relief. Has anyone tried that successfully??

One suggestion was an extended mount from EGW. Does anyone have one? And is it undercut to allow clearance for the bolt handle. My bolt handle, when in the up position, is about 3/32 above the receiver.

Any other suggestions?

Re: EGW Mount for IOR

Both rings forward of the turrets is a bad idea.

I used a standard weaver pic rail, then moved up to a steel rail.

I am tall and long of limb so I have never had the problem you describe, though it seems to be a fairly common problem.

Can you shorten the LOP on your stock at all?

I have heard of folks using the EGW extended rail, my suggestion is to call them and ask.

Please report back if you go this route as I am certain other folks would be very interested.

Re: EGW Mount for IOR

Ya, I dont like the both rings forward deal either. Sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.

*Could* shorten LOP but would throw things off with respect to all my other rifles.

Ive left two messages for EGW so far with no return call.

All else fails I guess I sell the scope and get a different one.

Re: EGW Mount for IOR

The extended EGW base is a good solution. I'm running one on a 700sa with the 3-18 IOR. I believe mine is the double extended 20 moa rail. There is approximately 1/8" between the top of the bolt and the bottom of the rail. Works famously.

Re: EGW Mount for IOR

Got a call from EGW. Extended base sounds like the answer. They specifically said it was undercut to clear the bolt and extends back 1.5 inches, which is plenty

Re: EGW Mount for IOR

What a freaking ordeal. I ordered and received the extended base from EGW (thanks guys!). But found it was drilled for the smaller base screws. Of course my receiver is tapped for the bigger ones.

No biggie. To the shop I go and drill em out.

Get the base mounted and confirm that it does indeed clear the bolt handle. Yup, GTG.

Get the scope mounted and leveled up where I want it, tighten everything down. Now of course you hafta dry fire, well, cuz thats what you do after you mount a scope right? THE FU%KING BOLT HANDLE WONT CLEAR THE BACK SCOPE RING NOW! FUDGEAMONKEY!!!

Pull it all off and start again. Move the ring forward enough that it clears the bolt handle and now of course its too far forward again. Geezus H!

So (thanks fdkay...) I pull a big spacer out of my stock and shorten the LOP. Got everything mounted, leveled, and tightened again, and Im GTG...again.

End result was I'm still ONE notch farther back on the scope base, so at least that wasnt a (total) waste of money.

NOW, im looking for some lower 35mm rings, cuz you can put your thumb between the objective and the barrel, and I hate that...

Re: EGW Mount for IOR

Yup, its a dance to get the IOR and the EGW to play nice. My 20moa is going in my mill and I'm gonna bring that tall bastard down where it belongs. I couldn't find any rings shorter then the mediums.
