Empty shelves....

I went over to Fleet Farm today to get some material to repair some burst pipes and decided to look at the sporting goods section. To my horror the shelves were almost barren of ammo and the gun racks were almost empty as well! There was a bunch of shotgun ammo, but everything else was gone. Mostly empty boxes strewn about the shelves. It looked just like something out of a movie.

I looked for any CCI SV and there was none. Wait a minute! There's a box on the bottom shelf! The last one. All the velocitors were gone as well as most other rimfire ammo. There was hardly any centerfire ammo. I did see some 150gr 308 and some 30-06, but holy cow, what happened?

There was a note taped to the rifle case that said you are allowed to purchase only one of each model because people are buying them and selling them at huge markup. This is crazy!

same thing here. All the Walmart and all the ammo at Academy has been sold out since at least the 22ND even Bass Pro was cleared out with just about everything they as well. I called Academy today to see if they restocked because my dad, sons and myself are going shooting tomorrow and they said they should be getting a truck tomorrow and there may be some ammo on it

223 / 556 , 9mm, 300blk, and 22LR are sold out here (S. TX)
308 and 762 has "fewer options & selection".
22wsm still there.

No restrictions / limits on sales per customers yet.
Ive definitely seen and overheard more "sawed off people" in the guns and ammo sections.
(people one can short of a six pack)
I still see that "zombie ammo" lol cant wait for that to go away.

Everything is now in the pipeline. More ammo should be hitting the shelves soon.

between the chicken littles and christmas, it's no surprise.

oddly, probably the most useful of SHTF firearms is a shotgun whether it's bird shot or 00 buck, but the shelves are full of that.

funny too that most of the folks that think they gotta get some before it's banned should have already had a "working stock".

2 more cents: the folks that are buying it up usually don't have the stones to use what they've stockpiled in the event of a SHTF, zombie apocolypse, red dawn event, or whatever the politically correct term is these days.

Quite the salient point that I have forgot to mention in my recent rants...amen TP, this needed saying BAD.

Look if you are only now seeing this you have been living under a rock for 2 weeks. I have some other news for you, this did not start with the school shooting, this actually started on 11/7/12, it only kicked into overdrive with the Sandy Hook incident. I knew about gun stores full of cash toting customers on 11/7/12, but I didn't fan the flames. This also illustrates the fact that people knew what was going to happen the minute everyone woke up on 11/7 but even some of those who knew, contributed to the other side of the debate.
If everyone will calm the hell down things will get back to relative normal. Stop posting every time you see empty gunstore shelves....we know...we get it...you aren't helping or giving me any info I don't already know.

You got it. I was in the Plymouth fleet farm the other day when wolf 7.62 ammo was $4.55 a box.. I bought a lot, and bought the last of the p-mags they had. For once I hit a deal before the shit hit. At least we all know one thing... There's more guns and ammo in American homes than ever before

^ EXACTLY! we are, in many ways, adding to the "panic" or rush to buy up stuff by actually doing what the general media is doing...it is a double edged sword.

sort of like a prediction of a snowstorm...everyone clears out the eggs, bread and milk. 3 hours later when the roads are cleared, they are at burger king instead of making french toast almost forgetting the snowstorm.

i have an opinion on the high cap mag and banning of firearms convos, but i know it would not be popular with the gun guys so am refraining from adding 2 cents on that....but i'd be more afraid of a guy that can effeciently reload 3 10 rnd mags and has spent the time and practice to know his firearm to do so flawlessly than a guy that knows nothing and has a 30 rounder.

that's my last stick to this fire or i'd be doing what the pro firearm culture shouldn't be doing.

The poeple who make their living selling guns and ammo work hard and deserve a profit.
Many shooters including me are tight. It is tough to eke out a profit from the regulars.
These runs on the gun stores keep them in business. Hooray for the panic buyers keeping our suppliers afloat.
This too will pass.

Funny I was thing the same thing
I know with some practice I could shoot off as many rounds thur some 10 rounders as I could with the same amount in 30 rounders.

That's a good thought, but doesn't end up to be that way.

Guy from Ranier Arms had a write-up on how these panics affect businesses. To paraphrase, it's not that great. Sure, the short term profit is fantastic. However some of these shops will be waiting months for new product. Lots of them aren't going to pay for people to just stand around, which result in loss of jobs. What little they do get, the price will be increased (which sucks for the consumer). Larger shops that move higher volume and pay cash for product (opposed to short-term credit) are better off.

Bottom line, it's better for the majority of shops if demand is slower and steady. And better for the consumer.

The cause and effect have lots of data points and ways to look at this repeating situation.

But just think how it must make the anti-gun freaks feel when they realize they are driving all this ammunition into the hands of the opposition. That alone is worth something IHMO.

there is a good chance that in a few month this will all crash and stuff will be a lot cheaper. Last time this happened you could get 1400-1800 dollar ar's for 800-1000 dollar after the crash.

I started stocking up back when Midway had Assie 7.62 for $28.00 a 200 round can.

Before the election I had another 3000 rounds of 5.56, added 4500 more the past month or so and another 500 coming.....most of it M855 or the new Marine SOST round. 3000 rounds.

Handgun 9MM,.40,.38 Super and .45 ACP probably 10,000 rounds or so.

.22LF 3 cases of 3,750 round each and one more coming.

2 500 round cases of .22 magnum in route.

Cases and cases of 12 Gauge 00, #4 buck, Truball slugs, and some special purpose shells with 1 650 grain ball and 6 00 buck per round. I even have a case of Bird Shot.

I figure am good for a while.
