Got my first eotech today in the mail and WOW this thing is huge! Anyone else think they are a little big? What would be another option of a red dot/holo sight thats smaller?

What model? Some are bigger than others. The shape makes them look bigger than they really are - same with the tijicons. I would second the aimpoint micro. They are much smaller. The other aimpoints are a little thinner than the eotech but the viewing window is smaller too. The comp m4 is the real deal! It puts eotechs to shame - best rds i ever had the pleasure to look through.

Guessing its a 512, they're not all that big. No wider than an AR receiver, little long, does eat up rail space. There are smaller EOtechs. I'm personally very fond of them close range, I don't think there's a faster sight.

after using both the Aimpoint Comp M4 sight and the EOTech 556 sight in the military, I greatly prefer the EOTechs over the Aimpoints any day.

I've heard the exact opposite as well. It just depends who you talk to. They are both good sights but the Eotech isn't as aesthetically pleasing.

Most of the vets I've talked to don't like the Eotech because they actually had failures of one kind or another. I guess yours held up.

Sorry, I should have put a reason as to why I prefer EOTechs over Aimpoints. What I felt with the Aimpoints was that even though it doesnt have any magnification, it was still a sight in a 'tube'. I felt like I had 'tubular vision' like you would experience with a scope for example. However, with the EOTech since it is a flat screen, I didnt feel like I had a problem with 'tubular vision'. just my personal preference.
