Amid the horrors and carnage that we all bore witness to yesterday in Boston, there was something else. A light that shone through the darkness like a beacon of hope.

While the event itself is a tragic reminder that we live in a different clime. It was good to see that so many people put their own personal safety aside and didn't hesitate to jump into the fray to help complete strangers. I'm not talking about 1st responders, that is our job. I'm talking about everyday people. People like Carlos in the video below who had to witness things that most people shouldn't, yet he rose to the occasion and most likely saved the life of a double amputee.

As a side note, that guy right there lost both his sons. One, a Marine who was killed while serving in Afghanistan and then his other son who took his own life shortly and due to his brothers death. Just when you think you've had a bad day you read a story like this man's story and it puts things into perspective.

When the Marines showed up at his house to notify him of the death of his son he tossed a jug of gasoline in the van and set it a fire. Carlos suffered some serious burns.

His truck is a common sight around Boston as he has it decorated as a memorial to his sons and all veterans. In MA he attends about every funeral for service men killed overseas.

Word is the kid he was photographed wheeling down the street while securing either the tourniquet or a femoral artery is well enough to be identified. He lost two sons but has hopefully saved someone elses.

When the discussion of "Fairness" comes up I wish someone would ask why do we let some give all while others only take from those filled with goodness and willing to take on all that life deals them.
