I shot a couple of F class matches this year and now want to build a dedicated rifle. I used my varmint rifle, which is a .223 AI. I did pretty well considering I shot in the F Open class against the bigger rifles. These comps were at mid range, so their advantage was mitigated somewhat. In my thinking the F/TR class would be the best place for me learn and be more competitive.
These are the components I've been getting together for the build. Long action AICS, trued LA Rem, Rock Creek 11.27 twist M24 barrel (finish at 28"), NF 12-42 BR scope, 20 Moa base, and an Atlas bipod to finish it off. Most of the components are from a 6.5-284 that was smoked. If my math is correct it should finish at around 17.5 lbs. Now to the big question, is there any disadvantage to using the long action, instead of the short action?
