Buddy just sent me a text this morning that he was fixing to test drive one. Havent heard back from him yet. Though the sticker on it was just a couple grand less than a 250. He was going to drive a platinum 150 compared to a lariat 250. Curious as to what he says about it

Personally dumbest idea to come out in a long time and I am a HUGE FOMOCO fan. Other than MPG it serves no purpose at all. Tow rating is less than 3.5 ecoboost (which has proven itself very well). Maintenance and repairs are a lot more on a diesel. (I own a diesel, and repair them all day everyday). You will not save any $$$.
Diesel in a 250(0) or up is different. As the truck is much more capable and the diesel can be made big enough to do work with MPG being secondary.
$100 says you would be happier with 3.5 ecoboost after the new smell is gone.
My $0.02, take it for what it is worth.

When the jeep jk was announced I really wanted one with the Mercedes 2.5l turbo diesel but the only place in the world you couldn't get was the US thanks to commiefornia emissions standards.
Surely the 3.8l gas minivan engine I have in my jeep is a much better choice than a turbo diesel and cleaner running for sure, not.
When I first saw the Toyota highux 4x4 in South Africa there again I wanted one but guess what not in the US, for a four wheel drive that needs the torque and power in the low rpm range it is a great choice and hope the US market starts to realize that.

Ford seems to be ahead of the curve in regards to what the consumer wants and what actually sells so good on them.

I would run away... At least until they're out for a couple years and make sure the problems aren't terrible like the rest of diesels they've made since the 7.3l.
With the up front costs of diesel, higher fuel costs, higher maintenance costs, higher repair costs, adding ureah, all the bull shit emissions bogging them down, I have no idea why anyone would consider one unless they working the wheels of their truck.
Little background... My father has a salvage yard dealing with primarily ford trucks.

After having driven nothing but Chevrolet 2500HDs since 1989, I bought a new F-250 6.7L Powerstroke last year and am blown away compared to the Chevys I'm used to. That said, "Never fly the "A" model of anything." I would give this new 150 engine a couple years before I bit on that big of a change. I think you probably would prefer the Platinum or King Ranch diesel 250 to your current ride, but it's still a great truck and you probably would be disappointed with this new experiment. Just a guess, of course.

I have had about five F350 diesels over the last 20 years. My 2018 F350 is gasoline. Yeah when I am towing up a hill I miss the power.

Here are some things I don't miss:

1) Buying and pouring DEF
2) Storing leftover DEF in the garage
3) The stink of diesel fuel on my shoes (because every asshole at the fuel pump gets a few drops on the ground, and that is where you stand while pumping. The same few drops of Gasoline just evaporate.
4) The stink of diesel exhaust.
5) The premium price you pay for diesel fuel.
6) The premium you pay for the engine.

Did you know that is most of the world Diesel (even ultra low sulpher diesel) costs less than gasoline? It is only higher here in North America because the US and Canada have placed higher taxes on it.

Dodge, Ford, GM have invested so much blood, sweat, tears, and money into their diesel programs that they refuse to make a gasoline truck that can do the same work. At the altitude I live turbos are almost mandatory. With Ford's turbo technology (taken from Volvo mostly) they could easily do a twin turbo 6.2 gas engine for the F250+. it would be $5000 cheaper than the 6.7 and that is why they don't do it.

If I get to where I can't tolerate the lack of power I can get an after market turbo. So far the gasser has been ok for power and a big olfactory improvement. Getting 12.4MPG with the gas and I only got 15 with the diesel. That was just enough to pay for the difference in the price of the diesel fuel with nothing left over to reduce the pain of the premium price for the diesel engine.

We have been thinking about one. It would be handy to have another truck that can handle the little horse trailer and utility trailer. We have a F350 dually that handles all the heavy tasks, there are times when the wifes suv is a pain in the but andi have to go get whatever sincei have the truck. I'm wondering what the diesel prices are going to do with the Marine sector having to go to low sulpher fuels, we have already hada significant increase from the oil field getting busy again.

Tow rating aside, it'll likely pull better than the EgoBoost...but the biggest issue as I see it is LACK OF PAYLOAD.

A typical XLT or Lariat Crew Cab Short Bed is going to have payload in the 1200lb ballpark, which is really limiting if you are pulling a bunkhouse travel trailer with wife, kids and crap in the bed.

Now if they offered the F150 with diesel *and* Heavy Duty Payload Package...the game changes a bit, but you're still paying a premium for an oil burner relative to the 3.5L.

Then again, I looked at a 2018 F250 XLT Crew Cab Standard Bed 6.7L Powerstroke the other day and its payload was 2125lb...which again is limiting if you are filling the cab and running a fifth wheel.

Personally I wouldn't buy any ford let a lone a brand new diesel from them, ive drove a 2014 eco boost for 4 weeks all higheay miles and got 16 mpg, and a 2018 f250 gas at 11 mpg they were both rentals and neither pulled a trailer or carried more than 4 people and luggage, tbh the the eco boost was a gutless pos, but they have plenty of room in the cab, and the 2018 was just under the platinum I can't remember what that is and it had more bells and whistles that you could shake a stick at, as for gas in a 250 or 350 all I can say is you better plan on having it forever or giving it away, cause I've never seen one bring close to what its worth, that not just ford that's all of big 3, an other option that wasn't in the video was Nissan has a v8 Cummins in the titan now, and GM put a durrimax in the Colorado

I was really proud of ford for going with a twin turbo gas direct injection motor with wet sleeves and embracing technology out side of the regular old v8. However, they already produced a 4.5l v8 diesel that they put in range rovers in Europe which got 28mpg, and passed us emissions, and choose not to use it instead earned a serious shake of despair! What they should do is make a f150sized truck w/1ton running gear and a healthy motor of any varietal.

As is a d60 under a heavy ass f350 truck with 700lbft of torque in 4lo bound up is just as weak as a smaller axle and lighter less powerful vehicle. I want the big axles and light vehicle!

Only complaint I had w/ my 2015 150 was I didn't care for how the seats adjusted and they were a little uncomfortable. Was looking at 2018 stickers just this weekend and the 3.0 diesel looks to be a $2k or $3k option depending on pkg. For me, just not worth the extra $$ on top of higher fuel cost. I didn't have any problems w/ the 3.5 ecoboost and it would smoke the tires if you weren't careful. And I got 20+ on extended highway trips. Same goes for F350s - years of diesels but finally went w/ a gas burner on my last one after the diesel went to $8k. Used to be the diesel could pay for itself but no longer w/ higher fuel costs.

Odd you think the ecoboost is gutless. The 2015 3.5 I had hauled ass. Even the multiple 2.7s I’ve had as rentals were quick. I also have a 2017 gt350 and several literbikes, so I’d say my gauge of quick is pretty spot on.

As for what they are worth, I just sold my 2015 lariat 3.5 ecoboost and got a very nice chunk of cash for it. They hold value much better than sedans

If you were getting 14 mpg on the highway there was something wrong. City driving in LA and SD I was getting 15-17 and on the 5 going up and down the state fairly regular for racing and shooting I was pushing 25-26 with 4 people and gear. Plus the new 2017-18s are using a 10 speed. I rented an expedition max (3.5 ecoboost) and stuffed 5 fat ass dudes plus 2 rifles each and gear, drove from SD to Casper Wyoming for the NF ELR, we averaged 18mpg and were cruising north of 80mph most of the way.

You would be in the extreme minority not being Happy with the 3.5 ecoboost. I dont have the F150 version but wife's Taurus SHO has the same engine (there are a couple differences). It has enough power to impress the average person. City MPG is meh, but I dont really count that as there are to many variables. But Highway MPG is impressive. It routinely gets 28.5 at 90MPH. Having tested 3 times (SLC to Vegas, 470miles) it gets 1.2 better at 90 than at 80mph. I want to get one and hot-rod the shit out of it. But I already have one expensive hobby.

Distillate prices are going to rip come the second half of next year. The sulfur spec change for marine fuel oil means nearly 3 million barrels per day of high sulfur fuel oil demand being replaced with predominantly distillate based blends.

they do not put the eco-boost in F250 or larger. If you were driving aF250/350 then you now know why the diesel is so prevalent.

And the new 5.0 is just as bad ass. I have sport mode in both vehicles, and under sport mode and my heavy foot, they both get 17+ beating around mid coast maine. I looked at the 150 with powerstroke. 2 good friends of mine build land rovers for a living (read: very reputable, well known, niche company) and one of their common heart transplants is a 2.3 or 2.5 liter powerstroke engine, that has been used in Ford vehicles overseas for years. They have no problems using it, and all the customers are very happy. When the rover owners want more power, they swap lsx engines into them instead. I was never a Ford guy in the past, but they have come a long way. And lets not forget, they were the only auto maker in the us who did not receive a bailout, and they are also the only of "the big 3" that actually is made in the USA. Cant go wrong with a Ford, and my advice to the OP, get the lariat model, regardless of engine, and you'll always be happy to jump in and drive that baby

I’m in the market for a pair of new vehicles. I’ll never buy a GM or Chrysler vehicle again. Period. Why should I buy a vehicle from someone who couldn’t make payroll? I feel that if I buy from either I’m supporting socialism.

Back to Ford. My last two vehicles were an F350 diesel & a Navigator. I’m done w/ Ford too. I’m not a fan of the cheap ass aluminum truck bodies. But even more than that, I’m not a fan of Ford supporting the NFL. Since Ford is an official sponsor of the NFL, my choices are limited. This time around I’m looking exclusively at buying Toyotas.

Fuck Ford, Chrysler & GM. I would guess (off the top of my head) that the Toyotas are more American made than any of the Big 3’s offerings anyway.

When you get down to it, anyone could find a reason not to buy from pretty much any major retailer or manufacturer out there. Aside from some things that directly affect you or go directly against your beliefs (companies supporting the disarmament of the people is one for me), most all of that is just noise. Toyota concealed safety defects from its customers and took a ten figure fine as a result (which we all know is just passed onto the customer again), they're far from a golden child. Audi, VW, Mercedes and Benz were Nazi cheering companies who produced American killing machines via slave labor in WWII, much of the same goes for Subaru (which I have), Toyota and Mitsubishi in Japan. This same drill can be done for any of the rest.

I recommend buying the best vehicle for your needs based on the vehicle's merits alone. Aside from the company's reputation on reliability and post-purchase support, the brand badge on there is 99% irrelevant.

You may be happy replacing your Navigator with a Land Cruiser, but you will not be happy replacing your F350 with any thing Toyota builds. Toyota's big trucks do not seem to carry the quality that the rest of their vehicle line is famous for. You get big truck design ques with tiny truck suspension/steering/frame. When you go to use your "big truck" from Toyota expect to be disappointed.

You are of course correct that they should not be supporting the NFL. Go ahead and send them a letter protesting that, but don't expect Toyota to provide you with a replacement for your F350. Interesting question : how much of that number has lawyers involved? Just like our loading manuals. I typically exceed max load by 10-15% on almost every load without major pressure signs.

The only vehicles loading numbers I pay attention to are CG load limits on aircraft. Yes you can fudge it a bit but it gets hairy quickly in smaller stuff

Fortunately for me, I don’t have a need for a diesel truck these days. It was more of a want than a need when I bought it. It was used to pull a trailer at times & it was a badass truck. I really wanted a 7.3 L but I ran into a smoking deal on a 6.0 L & jumped on it. I got rid of it a while back but in the end, I had zero issues or complaints w/ the 6.0 L. It ran like a top the whole time I owned it.

You are of course correct that they should not be supporting the NFL. Go ahead and send them a letter protesting that, but don't expect Toyota to provide you with a replacement for your F350. That would be like going to the Girl Scouts for your precision rifle instruction---silly because that is not something the Girl Scouts do.

Interesting question : how much of that number has lawyers involved? Just like our loading manuals. I typically exceed max load by 10-15% on almost every load without major pressure signs.

Empty + placarded payload= GVWR

The only vehicles loading numbers I pay attention to are CG load limits on aircraft. Yes you can fudge it a bit but it gets hairy quickly in smaller stuff

Respect weight limits just as much as CG limits....
