I'm not sure where to ask this, so I'll try this section...

So as far as low ES and SD for factory ammo...

I'm looking at Prime 6.5CM, Hornaday 140 and 147 ELDM, Norma Match golden target, and Federal Gold Medal Berger.

I feel like these are solid choices for ammo, though not as good as what I hand load for my 6.5x47, I'm wondering what shooters like best as far as most consistent, repeatable ammo, banging steel out to 1050 yards and at least a couple times a year out to 1760 yards or so.

I guess I can try a bit of each to see what my rifle will like, but mostly curious about consistent ES/SD numbers.

Thanks,
Scott

I shoot the 140 ELD-M in matches out to 1250 yards and it does very well for me. Plan on shooting the 147 ELDs in my next match.

just chrono'd some 6.5 creed last week, 26" barrel, hornady ammo, velocity, sd, spread:

140amax 2722, 14, 39
140eldm, 2729, 15, 45
147eldm, 2715, 14, 33

Cool, thanks, yeah looks like people are getting good results with Hornaday, so, I'll just try a few different and chrono them and shoot some groups, see what's best

Thanks,
Scott

I just chronographed three different lots of Hornady ELD Match 140g today.

Average velocity: Standard deviation:

2725 fps 8.4fps SD
2788 fps. 22.6fps SD
2739 fps. 11.7fps SD

Those numbers out of a 24” barrel.

I’ve ran Hornady 140 eld match through the chrono a several times lately. Out of a 24” barrel I’m getting just over 2700 with a 14 fps es on average out of several 5 shot groups. My rifle really likes this stuff out to 650 yards which is as far as I’ve tested so far

I’m shooting Hornady 147 ELD-M out of a Brux 26” cut and done by Accurate Ordnance. Per my LabRadar, I’m getting 2740. Can’t remember S.D.
I’ve taken these out to 1600 several times. Very consistent, and shoot a solid .5” 5 shot groups. Super accurate. I have started hand loading the same projos using Lapua brass and Federal GMM small rifle primers. Haven’t settled in on a powder charge yet. Yesterday, had a 5 shot group that was an honest .4”, but velocity was way down. I’ll get there, but the factory 140’s and 147’s have been so good, I’ve put off hand loading until recently.

I'm about to start loading 6.5CM with the 147s. I plan on using RL26. Don't need to mess with H4350 and it gets pretty stout velocity with the 147s

The powder I am using is H4350, however I have a couple pounds of RL16 coming in. I do love 4350, and just bought 8# of it, but my buddy is getting fantastic results with the RL16, so I’m going to try it.
He swears he’s getting better velocity, and no pressure, so it’s worth a couple pounds to try.
