I looked over the last couple pages and I did not see any kind of woodchuck hunting thread, and because its the best time of the year to hunt them little fat bastards I figured I would start a thread about my first hunting passion!!!

Lets get some pictures posted!

Mark,
Great job!! Woodchucks are my favorite targets. But I hunt mostly orchards around here and the pickers are in there in the fall so I only usually hunt in the spring and early summer. I will get some pics up in the spring for sure. That 17fireball you built for me is a real tack driver!!! It shoots the 20gr and 25gr remmington loads to the some poi out to about 150 yards. I never had a 17 fireball group the 25 at all.

heres one of my favorites from october of last year. I really like the tufts of red hair under the arms. 13.2lb my largest and latest in the season. savage 223, 170 yards using 55gr hornady soft point, I was actually loaded up for coyote. (the yellow string attaches to the scale)

thats funny i love that commercial. somewhere ive got a picture of what a 90 gr tnt hollow point from a 270 does to a groundhog when i made a texas heart shot. gotta find it - this thread kicks butt

I couldn't get that add out of my mind while looking at this whole thread.

Re: Fall time + bean fields = Dead woodchucks!!!!!

I loaded up a .223 round the other day that works really well for a Remington .223 SPS V that was just crowned.

Hornady 50 gr V-Max
26.2 gr of Varget IIRC
going almost 3200 FPS.

I shot this GROUNDHOG at 200 yards and it flipped him up in the air and he did a back flip and landed on his back. Didn't even twitch!!!

I like the post Mark, chuck hunting is a passion of mine also. There is no better unknown distance training in my opinion than giving the good news to those little bastards. i have to start takin more pictures.

how bout woodchuck stew. My neighbor makes it.
Hit my new record this year with 104 of them. I stopped shooting in my good spots around the end of august so I could save some breeding stock.
