I have several friends that own '06's that perhaps want me to load some ammo for them. Heavy bullets for hunting or zombies. 165s and up.

So gents, what are your pet powders for the dirty aught? And more importantly why?

For this project I was thinking about getting an 8 pound keg, esp. for 'contingencies'.

H4895 GTG?

Been using the 190smk and 59.5gr of RL22. I had went 60.0, but 59.5 seemed the best. I also got them seated pretty long, 3.475 COAL. From a 100 yd zero I had to adjust for 67.5 MOA. Zero wind that day.

Also MontanaMarine is (to me at least) the dirty-aught 6 god. He has done some amazing stuff with the 155 scenars, 190SMK and 208 AMAX's.
I thing that RL15, 19, IMR4350, H4350 are all gtg with the 175 and lighter rounds. Take a look at some burn charts too. That will expand your choices. I've only been doing this a few months and I havent even scratched the surface.

IMR 4350 for heavies (load to suit rifle)

IMR 4064 for 165's

H414 hunting 150's

49.0 gr IMR 4895 for M1 Garand

These work in my (4) 30/06's

good luck

I have loaded my 06 with any of 10 powders to include H380, H414, Varget, IMR4064, H4831SC, as well as those listed above. My Rem.700 is a sporter weight barrel with iron sights on it so I don't torture myself trying to get sub MOA groups. But I have had excellent 3 shot groups with a few loads at 1 MOA or a little less.

In Particualar, the 165gr Nosler Ballistic tip over IMR 4064 is probably the best combo I've come up with for accuracy in tht rifle. I had some fun with Berger 190s over h4350 too. But they are kind of pricey.

Good luck finding just one!
