Favorite 22LR targets - trying to keep my 7 year old engaged

I do have one of their bullseye targets and it works well. I made the mistake of having it up at the 100 yard line at the local range when some idiots showed up, took out their brand new off the shelf ARs and started peppering the 3/16” steel without asking or putting up their own targets. Pretty much ruined the target before I got them to stop shooting at it. I had a friend’s son there using it with his .22 at the time.

They will last forever with rimfire, but at not made to withstand idiots.

Idiots are hard on everything. My dad likes to say they can tear up an anvil with a rubber mallet.

I love this one. Quite durable. Instant feedback.

Some scrap steel, torches or 4" grinder with a cutoff wheel and a welder the possibilities are endless. They can be made with removable legs and less targets to make them lighter to haul to the range.

We're attempting to start a .22LR rimfire challenge match at the club that I belong to. In addition to the usual array of steel targets, I set up a hostage target like the one in the video at 100 yards.

Competitors get one shot. If they hit the hostage taker in the head, they get 200 points. A hit anywhere in the body of the hostage taker gets them 50 points.

Now for the bad news. If they miss the hostage taker completely, they have 50 points subtracted from their score. In a real life situation, if they miss, they have greatly distressed the hostage taker and he may shoot the hostage.

Even more bad news... If they hit the hostage, then 300 points is subtracted from their score.

Notice the rifle setup in the video at 1:00. That's what we have for our course of fire for the rimfire challenge at 100 yards.

I haven't tried this myself but it looks like a good idea for a fun target.
