Favorite long range 308 bullet

I have recently just started to work up some loads for my BRO 308" and M&P10. I have only worked with Sierra 168 Match Kings. I didn't get the results I was looking for with AR Comp, I have some varget test loads to try with the 168s. I am looking for recommendations on everyone's favorite bullet for their gas 308. Both are 18" barrels.

I have had very good luck with the 175 grain SMK ,but the Amax is very popular. I have used both and there is little if any difference at 200 yards for me .

My 18" Gap-10 loves the 175SMKs over 42g of IMR4064. I do not remember the groups with 168s but we immediately put them down for the 175s. I have wanted to try the 178 Amax's and have seen people around here mention using a Lapua 155gr, if I am not mistaken.

175 SMKs or 178 Amax with varget at mag length has shot great in 4-5 different gas .308s. As far as a difference between those two, I notice very little.

I shoot the 175 smk's in all my 308's with great results.
I do not hunt with them.

I have a 20" barltlien that hammers at 1000
24" savage that is crazy accurate
And a sps tactical in a manners folder that is never been shabby.

I shoot swammo 175 match and fgmm 175 and both do very well.

Really this is right.

If I wasn't tied into 4k rounds for my rifle already I would go that route. I didn't want the plastic tips for my 308 bulk packed.

The berger and amax in the 168 grain are awesome. I've had great results at 1000 with the amax.

If you are going to hunt with match bullet then the amax isprobably much better.
I will never hunt with a smk again. They have done terrible for me.

175 SMK's with 44gr varget does really well in my bolt and semi. The Amax bullets do really well but are hard to load and not damage the polymer tips.

I really like the 178 BTHP, it shoots really well. I do notice a minute shift left from the AMAX. I load mine 2.813 give or take. I don't think I will use anything else for quite some time...

175 SMK from Southwest. Orginally I was shooting the 168 SMK because that is what FN recommends for my A3G. However, the more I shot and further I went out I noticed the 168 SMK after 800 yards was being shifted all over the place by the wind.

Although I really like Lapua bullets, because of cost, availability, and a number of other factors, I shoot lots more Sierra 175's than Lapua 178's. Plus, the Sierra's work just fine, and are more readilly available.

Yep, the 175 SMK always did good at the 600 yard line for me. Then one day for less $$ I decided to try the 168 Amax. Tad more drop but couldn't tell any difference in scores.

180 gr SMK (the AMU bullet, not the current offering). I have ~12K of them so I'm good for a while. If not them, the 175 SMKs would be a fine substitute for my gas gun.
