Crane dont support the squid team any more and not even the van. They should allow retired Navy as the majority of the current group is pretty mediocre compared to the other services.

So far I'm with you on the M86 pictured above. But, does anyone have the purpose of the oversize bolt shroud?
Digressing a bit, but it was a safety measure. Joe Poyner's book as noted in earlier post, page 126:
FWIW, I recall a guy on the M14 who had a tan camo M86 stock and searched for a few years for the proper McMillan short action on gunbroker, but never found the right one for sale, so I think he sold the stock. I did keep a picture of it for anyone interested. Looks like a black stock might have been offered as well (maybe Xcount could elaborate re his rare rifle).

Best bud carried a personal sig 220 and later, the FBI issued 1911.
Kinda like pistols didnt really matter, but I gave him the 220 for a birthday/Christmas so he could carry a 45.
I dont remember what he carried b4 that., I think sig 226.
The rifle, the m4, the mp5-sd, and later mp10mm were my interests in his kit. Kept trying to survey the mp10mm. I still want one.

Also as far as Im aware McMillan has used Schneider barrels since when they stopped making em themself. They may have used Wisemans for a short time but something went wrong there. Havent heard good things about Mr Wiseman, but IDK him personally so.. Supposedly he "stole" the Mcmillan barrel business in some kind of shady way? I cant quite remember.. @Frank Green have you heard about this?

Not before.... I think it must've been about new though. The speakers up behind the AU were about 3 stories tall. Double ear pro was no defense against the migraine that followed! I think the whole setup is 11 stories? Plenty big!
That place up there sucks a monster. We ran up from the field, up again, then up to the board. That smoked us all.

Well, I'm about out of rifle photos/info re: the 80's era FBI sniper stuff. Got a few photos of the HS guns prior to rebuild (posted those tonight). Probably got a few of the current tomato stakes.... What now?

I found.... like the pre-64 on the data book cover....
My rifles wood stock and hunting barrel....
No longer have a 2x7 redfield, anywhere..,
Have the GP-M40a1 stock it went in. Found the 3.5-10 1" on a 22lr street light killer... that started on it.
Still have the 4.5-14 that followed.
And have the last variant in the A3 with the S&B.
Could do a pic with all the parts laid out called EVOLUTIONS.
And, found the pss stock, have the blue camo m40a1 stock available, the 3.5-10 1", and the 700 PSS iteration into an A3, w 4.5-14-50 that served 25 years.
And a 700 PSS iteration into an 1.5 accuracy chassis with S&B that could be another EVOLUTION pic.
Pretty much detailing the general iterations.
Would take a bit to get it all in one place for pics. Could do.

I've just been lurking here, soaking up the knowledge, but if you're willing to do the evolution pics I for one would love to see them.

The front stud on each stock is almost exactly 3" aft of the forend tip.
The rear studs are a little harder to get a good number because of the recoil pads, but each stud is right at 2-3/8" from the edge of the fiberglass at the toe. There is a little variance in recoil pads.
And, check out this old Harris bipod which was on the Win 70 stock. About 7-11" from the leg fulcrum...

Thanks for the close up of the range card. I wondered if that was a sub 100 yard zero card and was going to ask for a close up. Makes total sense for shots taken across a typical two lane city street for instance.

Looking at that card a little closer, I'm not sure how it was devised. Looking at the 125yd zero line, for example, I can't figure out why the bullet path at 200yd would reflect -7.88"!

I didn't even look that close, but yeah, someone had a right index finger glitch when it should have been a left middle finger activation, as it was typed, not written.
I have a question for you experts. I have a 10 power US Optics scope with the serial number starting with FBI. Any ideas as to the original issuance of this scope.

I hate it when this moves so fast and I didn't go back to it.
Anyhow, FTR, the Pre-'64's all came in one size. Basically a long action about the same length as a Mauser. Slightly shorter than the post-'63's (li'l mind catcher there...) 1985 was when Winchester started actually making the short action, pictured above by Skunk. Before that as noted, they would stuff a "box" in the back of the magazine so it made it harder to load. JK..., it was to keep the cartridges aligned while firing.
Is that tac-welded or just friction slipped into grooves machined in the sides of the box?
