asking here cause i got a bolt gun. it shoots GMM very well out to 600. am asking if the TRU would be an (emergency only) option for hunting. the description given is that it has superior penetration and expansion which is it's reason to exist i read. planning on saving some 308 for SHTF and just wondering about successful dual use. at one time many here were advocating GMM for deer, hogs etc;game up to about 300lbs. i never quite liked that idea except in maybe an emergency where a CNS hit was doable. i would expect the TRU to be about as accurate. ie a reliable 1 MOA out to 600,reliably take game out to say 200. anybody know anything on this?

I have used the 64 grain Tru on deer ane coyotes. It performs very well but in the rifles I have tried (bolt and AR) its not nearly as accurate as a heavy OTM out past 200.

I would take a 308, all day, every day HOWEVER the rifle and ammo are considerably heavier. You can, quite literally, carry twice as much 5.56/223 over 308.

guess i missed that. got gmm at a good price from a guy on here. watching closely again in hopes. i am only a paper puncher and Gmm is the bomb for me but,not likely, but might hunt again and, again unlikely, but SHTF want at least better "fur" performance than 168 GMM.

i know this just asking for input/experience with TRU vs GMM. ii have ARs that i trust. if SHTF comes i am not going anywhere, staying right in place.
I shoot FGMM 308 168 grain SMK and Federal Tactical TRU 168s from both of my AI bolt guns and my TacOps. I find the TRU to be a little more consistent than the FGMM 168 SMK. I have shot the TRU to 800 yards with great results.

Can't comment on their performance as a hunting round, though.

Is the T308T projectile a 168 TMK? I bought a case and my rifle groups it great, but in trying to decipher what bullet it really is for solid BC numbers for extended range. Finally found on the LE website .48, but with no other info.
No, it is not the TMK. Unfortunately, Federal publishes very little information about the bullet.
