Hello, I was just curious if 215 Federal Magnum Match primers would work in a .270? If it does what powder would you recommend? I currently have access to H-4831 and Varget. Any input would be appreciated.

I assume this is out of necessity? The 270Winchester case capacity doesn't need any more than a standard large rifle primer.

However, if you have the cases and you have the primers and can't find anybody to trade with....then I would look at spherical powders, perhaps W760 or H414? Many others too numerous to mention, just look at the burn rates, or as mentioned, hard to go completely wrong with extruded H4831, although the slower burning powders are somewhat neutralized by an overly hot primer.
Good luck. BB

It will require some testing to achieve optimum performance levels because all the previously published data involves standard components and this is/will be "moderately" unknown territory.

Federal 215M primer in a .270?

Works great, I use mag primers on anything bigger than an 308 for the cold winters and accuracy is as good or better than federal 210match

I use standard Winchester large rifle primers in 300WM in Saskatchewan and Colorado and they work great. (just kidding, but the truth)

Hey, gewehr! I have a good friend in Gillette. Cal Taylor, does animal control. If you know him, tell him Leonard says Hi!
