What's up guys. I just took delivery on a remington sps. 308 varmint. I'm so pumped up. I have a few questions fellows... what do you guys think about millet or egw rails? What do you guys think about a sswfa 10x42 scope? I would like build on a budget just for the sake that is is my first bolt action. Later when I get better I'll upgrade according to skill level. I appreciate any input guys. Thanks

Re: finally joined the club

EGW bases are GTG, get the 20 MOA version.

Another good rail to consider is the weaver extended multi slot rail (also get the 20 MOA)

The SS 10X is a good scope, though it currntly is mil/moa.

It is better to have your reticle mesurements the same as your adjustments. Most commonly mil/mil.

The Bushnell tactical 10x mil/mil is an outstanding choice, for about 220 dollars, as is the weaver grand slam tactical from MidwayUSA, it is a 3-10x mil/mil, usually available for 300 on sale. It is almost always on sale.

A set of SWFA tactical, Burris XTR tactical or weaver tactical rings will work just fine.

Re: finally joined the club

EGW is good to go, can't speak on the Millet rails, I personally wouldn't try one... the SWFA SS 10x42 is a great entry level scope... I'd personally place a pre order for the new Mil/Mil version over the Mil/Moa

Re: finally joined the club

I have 2 EGW .20 rails and they work just fine. I also have several Weaver Tactical Grand Slam scopes, and they are the cat's ass for the price $300. SS scopes are also great, I would not hesitate to run the 10X, just not big on fixed power optics.

Re: finally joined the club

Alot of great info guys. Im going to browse the classifieds and if dont find one, ill get a egw 20moa. Sorry for the noob question but is there an advantage of using a mil/quad over mil/dot?

Re: finally joined the club

the mildot reticle is very basic, 1 mil from the center of 1 dot to the center of the next, .25 mil dot size....

the Mil Quad has .5 Mil hash lines, an open diamond instead of a closed dot ( so you can actually see the center ) more mils on the reticle at the bottom ( for holdover )...
