I'm sure a few hide members know I been planning this trip a few months and asking 800 questions about clothes, food and rifles and loads...well it all paid off the second morning of rifle season here in Colorado for me and thanks to all for some great advice. I shot this 5x5 with a broken main beam about 14 inches up from 364 yds off a bluff with a 300 wm and a 180 nosler partition bullet. He dropped like a rock after taking out both lungs. This was my first ever elk hunt on public land unguided. I sat up on a meadow Saturday morning because I knew nothing else to do, then the rest of the day I walked miles and miles and found this spot. For a bama boy used to living at 700' above sea level the 10k air was a change...lol...I was well conditioned when I got here and it was an hour and half walk to my spot downhill so we put some miles on my meindls. I have heard folks talk about how important glass is but never really realized how much so til this trip... Never could have identified this bull was a legal bull without some god binos and I was carrying some nice swaros I purchased from a fellow hide member. My hunting buddy couldn't tell if he was legal or not with his nikons. Zeiss conquest with rapid z reticle is the cats ass as far as I am concerned for hunting...it has been spot on for me. You fellows that live out here are blessed with some beautiful country, it literally and physically took my breath away.
