Have just finished a OCW for a new Shilin bbl on a:
Savage 10 FP-LE.
Bullet = 175 SMK
Pdr = Varget
Cs = Lapua
Prmr = 210-M
OAL = 2.80

Here's my dilimma; I seem to have two nodes. Both show promise however, both nodes show groups with 2 rnds on top of each other (ie like a figure eight) with a third rnd going about .442(R) of the stacked two. The other group is almost the same but prints (L) about .500 of the stacked two.

As this is my first time doing an OCW. Also I appologize for not having any pics; I'm not real computer savy. Never the less I'd appreciate some feedback and direction.

Re: First time OCW testing

Remember, with OCW you find the center of the group and shoot for charges where the center of the group remains consistent. Once you have your OCW, then you adjust seating depth and primers to tighten your group.

Also, dont forget to shoot in a round robin style to prevent barrel heat to influence your groups.

Sorry for the delayed response, have been away from the house for some time. Yes good point, I re-read the article and re-calc'd for center of triangles to center of POA's. It's been interesting because in my haste, I did not re-zero after my foulers. My first four shots were about 2 1/2 inces high. So I just dropped 8 clicks for two inches but should have done 10 clicks. But what the hey.

So I now have the two node groups as mentioned. The (R)8- group start with 42.9 @ .861 from strike to poa; next best is 44.1 with strike to poa of .984 and 44.4 with strike .538 from poa.
The other group was 43.8 with strike to poa of .417; next 44.7 with strike to poa o 864 and last 45.0 @ .987 to poa.

Nice but weird because of having to compensate for to high a scope adjustment for the first four loads; is that all shots except two loads run an average width of .449" for 6 of the identified loads. I excluded loads for 43.2 and 43.5 as they fell out of spec compared to the other six loads.
My hunch is the guys are going to tell me to run the test again with the corrected elevation so I do not have to fuss with adjustment compensations, ie. 42.9, 43.2, 43.5 and 43.8 initially struck 3 1/2 inces from my poa as measured from the center of the triangles to poa. The next four loads I had re-adjusted the elevation down 2 inches and then did my measurements from the center of the triangles. First four is just messier way but arrive at the appropriate measurements.
Anyhow thanks for responding. Everyones input is greatly appreciated.

Re: First time OCW testing

Doug, I am shooting the exact same thing out of my Savage FCP. I found that 44.5 was the magic number for the Varget. Fed cases, 210m primers, all put together at 2.80. Have consistently given me 1/2 moa out to 500. Haven't gotten it on paper further yet though. I am getting an average of 2710fps.

P.S. My sd's are at 8.6fps
