fl sizer trouble and neck sizer question

ok i stuck 2 brass in 2 different full length sizers and i mean stuck we ruined the sizers one sizer was brand new,its lapua brass .308 twice fired always fl sized them ,why am i sticking them now,no to the neck sizer its scracipng the neck also my fl sizer started doing this also ,looking for input here is a pic of what the neck looks like after being sized both fl and neck do this to my cases,never have i had this happen nor in any other sizers etc, other calibers.

Yes always have used case lube,been reloading for 6 years,dad been doing it all his life so we have plenty of experince

Is it just the neck of the cases? Have you cleaned your dies thouroughly as they may have copper residue on the Neck sizing portion. Alas you may have to use some very fine sandpaper to smooth your dies.

Everything you have described is from lack of lube, either your not using enough or not using it at all. Imperial Sizing Wax is your friend.

Cases get stuck for ONE reason; insufficent lube.

The photo of the scored neck says you have galling from the dry brass in the neck of the die and it will get worse as you continue to use it. The galled brass will have to be cleaned out or the scoring will continue even if you do properly lube the following cases.

+1 for Imperial Sizing Die Wax. It's the best stuff out there and I have never stuck a case when using it. I don't know what dies you're using but if it uses a bushing, I'd consider doing two sizing's for the neck. If you're sizing the neck more than .005" it is recommended to do the neck sizing in two steps to prevent overworking the necks. Looking at the picture you posted I wouldn't have a real issue with the necks.

Nothing personnal, just asking. Maybe a bad die or crap in the die? I can't explain 2 stuck cases in 2 different dies. I've never had a neck look like that. Try cleaning the dies with solvent and a brush then try again.

You've got brass galled to the inside of your sizer die in neck area. Did this happen while using Hornady one shot lube? Only time I've ever had that issue is when I tried one shot.
Issue is casued by lack of lube.

Imperial wax is your friend.

Forster lube is pretty decent also.

i've had the EXACT same problem and it what 100% McCourt says: junk in the neck bushing, caused by using one shot. Imperial wax is the only way to go.

I never would have believed sizing lube could be so different. Imperial is the only thing I use now.

Thanks for the input,yes we use one shot all the time time,and never realy thought of having dirty dies,the were rcbs and foster

It's brass galling in the die, that's not the same as "dirty". Dirt will wipe out, galling won't. It happens when two metals are rubbed together under pressure without lubracation; tiny bits of the softer metal will cling to the harder as firmly as if it's welded. It has to be lapped out.

Best thing to do about galling is to avoid it to start with. That requries a good case lube, properly applied. For rife cases I use Lee and RCBS water soluable lubes, Imperial Die Wax, Hornady's Unique and Kiwi "Mink Oil" boot treatment. I restrict OneShot to handgun cases that will be sized in carbide dies.

I'm EB-Tac's dad we have been using one shot lube for a long time.After he stuck thr first case the first thing I thought was he had forgot to lube it so when the new die came in I wanted to be the first one to use it so I got one peice of brass and lubed it real good with the one shot and let it dry.The die didnt make it half way down the case when it become stuck on the new die and I mean this baby was stuck like nothing I'ver ever seen,

What I think is that it's the lube this is a brand new can of one shot and I think it's bad.

Been using one shot on my dillon 550 and RCBS single stage for over 10 yeras and have never had a problem till now.
Wont be using One Shot anymore.
Brass was lapua and was once fired.I also checked case dimensions of the once fired brass and everything looked good

I can say with a great level of confidence, that will never happen using Imperial Sizing Die Wax. It's never bad or goes bad.

So if I had a Redding neck die that was "galled"...

Could it be cleaned out with something like Sweets 7.62 or some aggressive copper cleaner?

Or just toss it and buy a new one? (~$30).

I had that problem once, years ago but it was with a Lyman "case dipper" using something provided called motor mica. This set up has some vertically mounted nylon brushes of various sizes and you run the necks over then just before the sizer die.

Well, it's shit. I don't know what it would be good for but it is not good for bottle neck cartridge cases. They galled just like the man's photo.

I walked out to the shop, I still have the stuff. I can let it go cheap. BB

223 gets one shot everything else takes imperial & Hornady has something similar out now too as of late lanolin & 99% alcohol mixture has refilled my non hazardous one shot bottle, Wow it works extremely well. you won't believe it until u try search it here on the Hide you will find the formula.

I'm with you on One Shot. I've been using it since it came out, or since I started loading can't remember which came first. I have had one can that just didn't act right (nozzle I thought) that caused similar issues. I ran a new can and all was good. All my other issues were with failing to let it dry sufficiently.

Yeah you need to take those dies apart and run a .38/.357 brush up in there on a drill with some solvent. Then hit it with break cleaner, follow it up with a squirt of One Shot.
