Re: FN Patrol 308 fluted, Hogue Stock - Accurate?
I'll be the one to offer the opposing view.
I ordered a new barrel for my FN PBR-XP after the original failed in accuracy.
I originally bought the FN PBR-XP off of Gunbroker. Unbeknown-st to me: The seller has a habit of just listing guns, then ordering them from the wholesaler once he gets the winning bidders money in hand. Pretty good business model in that it allows him to drop ship from the wholesaler, and he carries no inventory cost/risk.
The down side is it took forever to get the gun, and the gun was in less than perfect shape. The gun had a nice scratch on the barrel with a nice patch of rust. I suspect the bore was not in the best of shape either as when I shot it with a pretty good sample of commercial ammo it shot like ass.
Given the hassles of dealing with the guy I just ate it and figured it would be a project gun. I had the gun restocked and bedded in a Manners T5-A stock (great stock), installed the Riflebasix trigger and ordered the new barrel same contour as my SPR build only 26" finished length and in 308WIN.
Once my barrel comes in for my 260 REM SPR build, I'll send them both off to Mark at Short Barreled Customs to have trued and built up, broken in, then disassembled for Melonite Case Hardening then Ion Bond coated in Flat Dark Earth and finally re-assembled...
