Hey guys let me start out by saying the I dont care what some guys say I love the Mini -14, always have . But,,, there is a big but there, the accuracy has always sucked. With that being said I have heard that the new Mini 14 and mini 30's are supposed to be alot better. so my question is this.

What kind of accuracy are you ACTUALLY getting with the new min 14's/mini 30's

If you shoot the min 30" does how is it working with the cheap russian ammo, mine used to misfire alot due to light primer hits

thanks guys

The only one that I had, was definitely not the "new" kind you refer to.

Mine had the bayonet lug, and removable flash suppressor, from days gone by.

Was a fun toy though.

I love my mini, super reliable and shoots any ammo I'll feed it. As far as the new ones I have heard they are a 1 moa rifle but thats from guns and ammo. I never really believe anything those writers say.

Re: ? for mini 14 shooters with the new mini 14

Ok, first post here. I have one of the new 580 series Mini 14 ranch rifles. Thus far I have 270 rounds through it, all Black Hills 55gr FMJ's. A touch over 1.5 inches @ 100 yards is the best group I could manage off of the bags with the ghost ring sights. On average I can maintain 2 moa if I stay away from the rapid fire. I know there isn't much love for the Mini's but mine has been reliable (no misfires/stovepipes, etc) and has exceeded my expectations of it. My one gripe is the brass landing in the next shooting lane. I suppose it all depends on what you are looking for in the Mini. Hope this helps.

I was actually looking at the 10/22 for a cheap build for me and my kids and stumbled across the new Minis and of course like the smart guy I am came back here to look for some info.. These are some decent looking Close Up shooters..

I may have to add a mini 14 to the collection now..

I agree, they are fun I have had about 4 over the years in all kinds of configurations. All but one lacked in the accuracy department, and even that one was about a 2-3 inch grouper. I am Looking at the new ones because they are supposed to be that much more accurate, and even thought they are pricey they are still 250 bucks cheaper than the average AR these days

Re: ? for mini 14 shooters with the new mini 14

I have a"new" Mini -14 2008 model in 6.8 SPC. It is very accurate with handloads. I added a Burris 2-7 Fullfield II and it makes a light Deer hunting package for my teenage son. 1 1/2 groups at 100 yards off a bench. The difference is the heavier barrel under the handguard. My old .223 Mini was apeshit after 10 rounds on a hot day because of the pencil thin barrel contour. I also lightened the trigger.

While expensive, 20 and 30 round Ruger manufactured Mini-14 magazines are now available. I got several new 20s for $25.oo/ea a couple months ago. 30s were $50.00/ea.!!! I passed on those.

Mag availability was my main problem with the rifle, in addition to Ruger's corporate culture which was somewhat hostile to people who wanted the Mini for its best purpose and scoffed at the desire of owners for high quality, high-cap mags. All after market mini-14 mags are trash in my experience. And I have 23 years experience thus far. All the aftermarket mags I bought sucked.

My circa 1986 stainless model cost $310.00 when Colt ARs where $700.00. It was a no brainer for me and I hope to pass it on to someone I love when it's dirt nap time.

It's accurate enough for an open sighted defensive carbine and has been a very good rifle for me.

This statement is what matters to me. I dont need it for a 1000 yd tack driver

Re: ? for mini 14 shooters with the new mini 14

QueeQueg, 1986? One of those newer 181 series eh? Never did get one of those new ones. All the hand fitting stopped with the 180s and that was it for me. Absolutely nothing wrong with a current Mini that a new rifle wouldn't fix. Lots of great Ruger stories, the old man was a self made man and he worshipped his creator.

AER,

Huh, What? Not familiar with the reference.

Rolling Thunder,

I was inclined at the time to buy a M-1 carbine but went with the stainless Mini as it was no more money at the time and a better cartridge choice for me aa well. .223 was dirt cheap back then. I'd still love to have a M-1 carbine though!

I respected the Old man though I thought he was very wrong to roll over for some anti gun bullshit. I couldn't blame him for being disgusted with wannabe blowhards and their militia horseshit, but words exist to seperate the whack jobs, loons and criminals that choose to wield one's product, from the law abiding gun owners who buy that same product and want high cap magazines for the many good reasons we want them.

There is nothing wrong with high cap magazines and Ruger should have stood fast in expressing the manifold reasons why they are desireable, rather than melt in the face of hackneyed arguments against them.

That, and a few other Ruger choices were regrettable, but his company is good for our country, my former state of New Hampshire, and I have enjoyed several of their reasonably priced products.
