How far or close to the lands are you getting your best results with this Hornady 105HPBT? On Sunday I shot a .229moa group at 300yds with it .032" off the lands, today with the same load the vertical came back and groups were shit to say the least, best group went 1&5/8th, seating the bullet deeper made one of the groups vertical go away, then it came right back with .2 more powder, then went away again after I seated the bullets right next to the lands. Then I tried the Hybrids with one of the same loads I used with the Hornadys and got a nice 1&1/16", no vertical. Just loaded more and gave it .001 more neck tension to see if that helps. Loads I used were 41.9, 42 & 42.1grs RE17. Any suggestions?

I try to stay around .040 with my 243 AI and 6MM AR, doesn't seem to matter much though as I haven't chased the throat yet with over 500 rds into each of those rifles and they still shoot bugholes.

[MENTION=70]Rob01[/MENTION], have you found the advertised BC on the 105 BTHP to be accurate? I have a bunch of these that I am going to switch to and was curious if they are that much better than the Amax. Thanks man.

Varmint I haven't sent them out far enough to test them for sure but with the BCs of all the other Hornady bullets I use being right on I would venture a strong opinion that the .530 BC will hold true.

I seated them .015" off the lands with good results. As for vertical dispersion, be careful with temp sensitive powders like RE-17. You may be in an accuracy node one day, then way off the next day if it's hotter or colder.

If it was 140F I might be concerned about the powders sensitivity to heat, but it was only about 82F, I believe mirage has more to do with it than anything, or neck tension, or both. In this target the hybrids group was shot later in the day, mirage was minimal, the 105HPBT was shot when mirage was quite good or I mean bad.

Cool thanks Rob. I read a few threads on 6mmBR that said that they were seeing dope similar to the 105 Amax. I would be ok with that really considering the 105 HPBT has been available pretty much the whole duration of the madness and is a few bucks cheaper. .530 or whatever they advertise would be awesome too.

Apologies for the Necropost, but I am curious if anyone has a straight answer on true G1/G7's for this particular bullet? I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on a 6mm Creedmor, and am very interested in this bullet.

RL 17 Sucks quit using it, H4350 will yeild better groups under all temperatures :)

105AMP's? I thought we were talking about the HPBT's.... what are AMP's.... Amax's?

The .530 G1 number works well. I've shot them out past 1100 and .530 keeps me on the steel.

What is it your trying to accomplish? If you're able to get sub .5"-1" groups at 300yds IMO your wasting components and useful barrel life trying to get better... That rifle will win you any tac style match you put it in as long as you do your part... Just my opinion
