Forum Bashing...

Hey guys and gals. I wanted to talk about the subject of forum bashing of members. I am not talking about Snipers Hide. I have been here for a while and our members are some of the best members on the net. Smart, respectful, kind, helpful, very helpful to the new folks just starting out in our sport, just to mention a few.

What I want to talk about is other websites and why bashing of members is happening. Yes I know it is going to happen, some people are just that way. What ever happened to the old saying, "If you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say nothing?"

I understand some members will get on and post topics that are so off the wall that it is ridiculous. Some members will get on and post topics and back them up, "with as much proof as they could" on an internet forum. Some will even provide videos. Still the bashing goes on.

Lack of knowledge about the topic?

Childish?

Because they can't do it and only the highest of trained people should?

Or just flat out mean?

What is it? I guess I am old school. If some thing is posted on a forum, I take it for face value. I have no, nor have I been given any reason to call a member out and bash them because I don't believe them. After all, what does it matter?

Doubting a person and questioning them about their topic is one thing, bashing is another.

But I do want to say one thing, Snipers Hide has some of the greatest members. I have only seen one incident on this forum, but the OP placed themselves in that situation with tremendous "Tin Hat" mentality and comments. For those of you that have been around you may remember this member.

Childish, maybe, but being judgemental just tends to put one right into the center of the turmoil. I'm more likely now to just turn pages, change channels, sorta.

It took me a long time to reach such stability (and there's always a bit further to go, too...). I was quite a doozer once, maybe less so now.

I just got tired of repeating stupid stuff. I guess I learned that winning/losing/everything related is subjective and leads to eventual personal/self disgust. There's a lot more losing going on than winning, and when winning occurs, it's mostly just an illusion anyway. There also usually a(n un)healthy degree of paranoia involoved too.

Who needs it, really?

Mostly, a subvocal "Aaah frack 'em" suffices.

What you have said is the truth, of all of us at one time or another. Definitely an eye opener for me.

Some really good words to follow for everything in life if you ask me.

I think we do our fair share of bashing on this forum, however I think most of the time it's in good fun, and a lot of the time its someone like davemuzz or Gecko45 who was asking for it.

I agree that some folks put themselves into or set themselves up for ridicule. I don't think it is really bashing on this forum, like you said, it is in most cases out of fun. I think we just like giving our fellow members a hard time.

Can someone tell me the best caliber for sniper shooting? Would it also be the best caliber for counter sniper operations? I want to get the best one there is.

Also, which Counter Sniper reticle is the best? Should I settle for the 'contract overrun' or get the Ti version? If a sniper shoots at the reflection of my scope, how good is the Counter Sniper warrantee?

everyone i have had contact with on this site has been top notch. i try not to put my foot in my mouth and try not to speak unless im sure of my facts. i have noticed on some other forums that their is always someone out there to call b.s. on anything even if the facts are correct. you guys have been respectful and open and from a newbie thanks S.H.

I heard from other members here that the owner is a dick, he has a Napoleon Complex and treats everyone terrible, even the trolls. He hides behind his keyboard and attacks everyone, at least that is what everyone here says. I never met the guy, but someone I know was banned and he said they are assholes.

I think we should take up a collection and fire him, or at least have one of the good moderators ban him for a year. His constant attacks on people who try to exercise their Freedom of Speech is unAmerican. Not to mention always banning members who disagree with him. Why can't well all just say what we want without having to suffer his attitude is beyond me, I mean, jeez, my friend was just trying to sell something.

But seriously, what do you all say, cause all my friends say, he's mean.

I guess it's all in how you were raised and/or the way you show affection towards friends. Some are into the whole lovey dovey crap while others such as myself are into friendly teasing. A lot of the bashing I see here at and at other sites are almost identical to how my friends and I talk to eachother in real life. This site is owned by a Marine and a good percentage of the membership here is Marines as well. I have plenty of Marine friends and I can confirm that it does require a thick skin at times, but in spite of that, they are some of the best people you could ever know in life.

Now as for actual trolls who just exist to stir up shit, I don't take anything they say/type with a grain of salt. They pull this crap simply because it's cheap entertainment for them to get responses back regardless of whether the responses back are positive or negative. It's the attention they crave and knowing they are the ones throwing a wrench into an otherwise perfectly running machine. They know that they couldn't get away with this in real life and are cowards in reality and that's why they need the internet to give them the street cred that they know they could never have in real life. I for one find it pretty sad and funny at the same time. If we were talking about just a bunch of cocky 13 year olds yapping on the net that would be one thing, but we are talking about grown "adults" who are 2 or even 3 times older than me pulling this crap! Seriously, if you're able to act more immature than me, then there's seriously something wrong with you!

Since we're both too short to ride the majority of rides at the state fair, is it OK if I josh on your height?

Example: I told someone who is afraid of heights I purchased a new rappelling harness. The person stated it is hard to rappel off a stepladder, alluding to their fear. I replied, "not if you're Frank."

Us short guys gotta stick together. Otherwise we'll never reach the cookie jar.

I met him at a match, and at RO once he made me an espresso because I complained there was no coffee to be had. He's not nearly as sassy in person as he seems here. I say this even though he sent me to the corner once for pouncing on an advertiser member for being a duck wad to others. This is his business - livelihood, not a therapy site. Give him a break. His innovative ideas and courage creating the Hide while hyenas nipped at his heels has helped usher in internet marketing and moved responsible gun ownership along in a huge way that parallels the gains of the NRA at no cost to gun owners much <span style="text-decoration: underline">unlike</span> NRA which must (apparently) employ a large expensive staff of stiff white-shirt executives, and many lobbyists at huge expense, to get the job done. The owner is savvy and elusive, but helpful to mature, responsible gun owners like </span>me.</span></span>

Hell, if you want to laugh for weeks on end, don't know if you are into drag racing at all, but the members of yellowbullet.com absolutely rip each other & other websites to shreads.
There is no mods governing that website so don't look at it with the kids around. I'm not bashing the site, just stating that it's pretty "out there" & a great example of how not to be.
But, if you need to know the details of drag racing, it's also a great resource.

Smilies seem to curb a lot of potential arguments. I've always wondered how many more fights there would be if people didn't put one of those stupid smiley faces after a sarcastic yet playful comment. Truth be told though that people who often get aggressive when you don't agree with their theories or choices are the most insecure of the bunch. They're also never the ones to say something to your face.

Vaginahead, being nice to others makes me feel good much unlike i felt in a time when i was a duck wad. I thought that made me feel good, but it really did not.
Since youre a smart, American gun-owner i will riskily assume you are also consistently an observant Christian of sorts, indulge me. I had an epiphany once not unlike the road to Emmaus during which period i was enlightened to learn, but not always practice, making amends for wrongs committed, and candor when being candid is positive and right for me to do.

I think bashing is one of those things that some people take offense at without thinking about the time they asked that question.

Myself I have no idea about all the gun stuff but I have a little knowledge of ot and some knowledge on life. I am not a SME but I just relate my experiences and help the person asking the question reach their own conclussion. Also the dog pile effect when you say one thing wrong at once then you try and correct yourself you are already guilty and you better not post any longer. I have seen the "stay in your lane" affect on some websites and they have no idea what your lane is or what it was.

If people are asking questions we should help people with what they are asking. Not all questions can be found from the search button.

I do not put down people even my ex wife. What is the point in it? If I can help I will be happy to help if I cannot then I cannot and might follow the question thread to expand my knowledge on the subject.

There was a time when I would rise to the bait, and some instances when some individuals tried (and sometimes succeded in) playing me like a violin.

I progressed beyond that to dealing with them as trolls (ya just don't feed 'em, is all...), which was also ultimately unsatisfying.

Eventually, it became a matter of noting their efforts, and finding little beyond boredom in the similarities between all their various fails.

One moves on eventually.
