just bought a "unfired" NIB 5r 300wm
upon arrival an inspection showed
the bore to copper fouling
when I told the seller he said -
I never looked at that closely
the few times Ive sold a rifle
I told them if for any reason you dont like it
send it back within a week & Ill return your money
& if I ever buy another
Id want some kind of inspection period
BUYERS BEWARE & unless you know the seller
ask for an inspection period
if its what he says it is
then he shouldnt have a problem with it

Re: forum gun buyers beware

Just an FYI I have seen numerous new rifles in racks at Big Sporting Goods stores such as 'Scheel's' in these parts and they have copper and even 'green' form copper. Factory test fires them all, don't know if they have a set round count, 1, 2 or whatever but they don't clean them before shipping! Have received one or two over the years I ordered that had copper and I know they hadn't been fired since leaving factory.

Also had/seen brass shavings on bolt and brass colored bolt face on 'new' rifles.

You should also make sure there is a registration card and register it with whatever company manufactured it. That way if it doesn't performed as designed it is a quick trip back for repairs.

Re: forum gun buyers beware

Ive bought a few new rifles,
none had copper fouling,
(I allways inspect before shooting)
not saying it couldnt happen,
just never seen it
Im going to town this week end
Ill look at a bunch of new remmy's
& see if any have copper coated bores
or debri in chamber
my last few didn't
I hope your right
I didnt know the test fired every rifle
must of took this one to a match
I just hope it placed well
you have restored my faith in mankind
thanks
any one wanna buy a rifle?

Re: forum gun buyers beware

Look over everything in Snappy's or Sportsman and see if they are all clean!!!! Take a small flashlight so you can see.

Re: forum gun buyers beware

I've bought plenty of guns with bits of brass on the bolt face or in the chamber from factory test firing (mostly pistols and ARs) but nothing as severe as what this sounds like.

Re: forum gun buyers beware

I have never known anyone on here to be dishonest
still havent,...
it only stands to reason they would be test fired
& larger calibers would leave more trace-
I will still look at some new ones
just to satify my own thick head
you guys are right
looks like I missed another good chance to shut up
my sincere apologies
if Ive offended anyone

Re: forum gun buyers beware

I have owned two Remmy 5R's. BOTH showed up from Sniper Country PX with "fouled" barrels, bolt face brass shavings, etc. I thought the same thing as you...no way theses are NIB rifles.
After a phone call to Scott I was assured this was from factory test firing and that I could send them back if I was not 100% happy with the rifles. He told me he received many phone calls about this "issue" and wished they would clean the rifle before boxing them.

Employees of said stores have been known to have some range time with these "new" rifles as well.

I know ive picked up more than a few firearms, rifles, shotguns and pistols off the "new" rack that have had more than a couple "test" rounds through them.

Re: forum gun buyers beware

My 5R was "dirty" out of the box. Cleaned it with Hoppes #9 before taking it to the range for its' first visit. I figured it was just the carbon from the factory having test fired it.

Re: forum gun buyers beware

So I bought a new car the otherday, and when I went to drive it off the lot the odometer wasn't on 0. I told the guy what the hell are you trying to push on me this thing is fk'n used..

Re: forum gun buyers beware

How do you think any guy that works at the gun shop ends up with a "shooter" right out of the box? You have to shoot em all to find the best
