That might be true with a AR10-M16 style, but with a M14 or clone it can be done easy. Guys don't have an AD in the house, make sure the safety is working and on, or do this at the range!
The rd can be inserted behind an under the extractor with one hand while the other thumb holds the opp rod. After it has pressure on it from the ejector slowly start the bolt to closed battery, as the tip of the rd enters the chamber you can remove that hand and glide the bolt/opp rod quietly into 100% battery. There will be no noise if done correctly.
Very, easy to do after a little practice. That block of instruction was taught, at/on rotation long ago. Guys always find things/ways, never taught in schools.
