That might be true with a AR10-M16 style, but with a M14 or clone it can be done easy. Guys don't have an AD in the house, make sure the safety is working and on, or do this at the range!

The rd can be inserted behind an under the extractor with one hand while the other thumb holds the opp rod. After it has pressure on it from the ejector slowly start the bolt to closed battery, as the tip of the rd enters the chamber you can remove that hand and glide the bolt/opp rod quietly into 100% battery. There will be no noise if done correctly.

Very, easy to do after a little practice. That block of instruction was taught, at/on rotation long ago. Guys always find things/ways, never taught in schools.

Quietly closing the bolt was brought up, some one ask why. That question was answered.
You said,

Re: Forward Assist on AR-10

My Colt SP1 shorty & my SR25 Match rifle don't have a FA and they seem to work fine. Maybe it's because I'm fussy and keep them clean and fussy on making my own ammo

Re: Forward Assist on AR-10

I don't know how many rounds I have put down range with an AR-10 but it is a bunch. Only once would I have needed a FA in a match and that need could have been prevented had I tested the ammo first.

Chad and I were shooting a team match and was running my 10T. For the close in rapid fire stuff I switched to South African ball ammo to save ripping through my match rounds. On one lane at the end of the day, it gummed my action so much that it would not go into battery. Chad had to run to my position and finish my targets with his TRG while I monkey-fucked my rifle.

A heavy douche of brake cleaner put the rifle back in action.

I've never had an issue like that with Match Kings and RL-15 before or since.

Re: Forward Assist on AR-10

We put about 4,500 rounds, of which 3k where suppressed thru an M110 Carbine, no additional lube (and little to start).
At that point I figured my little experiment was done (it started since USSOCOM borrowed the gun and pit 2,500 rds suppressed and did not clean it, we then wanted to see how far it would go.

It bobbled twice after around the 4,300 rd mark, but that was with Remington 168gr Commcercial ammo, and I figured it was likley ammo or mag related, as we shot another 200 rds of M118LR with no issues, but it was shooting about 1.5 MOA and it started at a wee bit under .5 - so we wanted to clean it to see if it would go back to shooting tight -- still cleaning the bbl (pretty fricken nasty) but will shoot it Monday and see what the accuracy is like.

Never needed a FA --- do the math.

Re: Forward Assist on AR-10

Im thinking I will just wait to see how IRA plays out. From the emails I got, they dont seem to be doing to well. Cant keep up with orders and what not. They said to do plan on offering FA, but not until they catch up.
