So i see an ad for an m1a and leapold for $1200 on an arms site,i email the guy and tell him i'll take it,i tell him all i need before sending money is another pic.,to make sure this one is not downloaded from the web,his phone # and his D.L. #.
he emails me and tells me he'll do this in a day or two because he's involved with a funeral.I'm thinking maybe he inherited this and is not aware the worth of the m1.
a couple days later he tells me he needs the money bad for the funeral costs but gives me no info!
I reply back that i'll send as soon as i get info,he sends me back he needs money bad and submits name and address in Sugerland Texas but nothing else. i google info and get nothing. I email AGIAN and ask for info(pic, phone number and D.L.#) so i can send money. the whole time i'm asking him to call me,i gave him my number from the start!
three days go buy so i call local ATF in Texas and they tell me if he's not a dealer there is nothing they can do.
I call Sugerland Texas P.D. and explain things and they tell me if i did not send money there is nothing they will do,I tell them i will email all info and they can offer to buy local and bust this scam but i guess there too busy eating donuts.
RANT OFF

Re: Fraud

I appreciate the warning, if that was your intent.

Per your situation, I think the elements of a contract are no where close to being established here. The dude may be a fraud but more than anything else I get the feeling he's a damn disorganized one!

I also get the feeling you thought you might put one over on him based on this sentence, <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">I'm thinking maybe he inherited this and is not aware the worth of the m1.

I think thas kind of insulting to the popo. He has done nothing legally amiss. If your really concerned there are a lot of Hide members in that area, Mabey you could ask one of them to do a verification....offer them $50.00 and it s still a good deal. At least you were smart enough not to get sucked into something.

Probably. How dare they not drop every box of those donuts and send their top three detectives on the first flight out of Sugarland to take a taped statement from you in the comfort of your living room before hurrying back to Sugarland and arresting that no good son of a bitch for not providing you with the information you requested via email. I mean really?!?!?! Not answering your email?!?! How fuckin dare he??? In this country?!?!?!?! Fucker should probably be executed on sight and those fat fuckin irresponsible, lazy pigs should all be fired and forced to spend the rest of their lives forcing people to answer emails.

Remind me to never visit Sugarland. Their cops obviously have their priorities completely jacked up.

LMFAO!

To the op, if you are that concerend and want something done, then buy it, if its a fraud, report it, if not well, good on you then, win win situation for you, far as I can see it.

Re: Fraud

I cant believe that you even called the ATF over someone not answering an email....thats some funny shit. I bet they laughed thier ass off while eating their donuts while trying to fight REAL crimes. No money changed hands,no fraud, no theft just someone that didnt get the steal of the week and got their feelings hurt the way I see it......just saying. What in the hell did you think they were going to do?

No thier PD is simply too busy trying to get some street criminals off the street so they don't have to do any kind of paperowrk or research which would cost them more time that they simply can not lose at Starbuck or Dunkin Donuts if you know what I mean.

Re: Fraud

SO the guy is busy and doesn't return messages on the day of a funeral, 3 days to grieve?

I'm thinking you want this deal FAST because he obviously does NOT know hte value of the weapon that belonged to the person they just buried...

Lets hope it doesn't end up in an estate sale or in probate!!!

Re: Fraud

Jesus.

First of all, it's not "Sugerland", it's Sugar Land.

Secondly, Phylodog hit the nail on the head.

Third, Why don't you hit up Mr. and Mrs. Lazy21, they have an excellent track record with stolen firearms and detectives....snicker.

Re: Fraud

I just happen to be employed by that agency (and donut free for awhile now). I brew my own coffee, so no need for Starbucks.

Translation: I have time to take your report and investigate fully the theft of your dignity. I'm not sure where it is in the Penal Code, but there should certainly be a law applicable to someone robbing you of the fundemental right of securing a scoped M1A for $1200

Maybe your Prezident has a Czar dedicated to your specific dilemma...... You might want to check into that.

A more reasonable approach would be calling all the news channels and papers in the Sugar Land Metro area demanding satisfaction. Afterall, this is right up their in civil rights violations with the great injustices of our time.

Re: Fraud

Damn phylodog you are fuuunnny, maybe you could be the next George Carlin.
The time from first email to last was over two weeks time and the man never calls to forward the sale.
makes me wonder how many asshats with a lack of forethought and with the intelligence of queerqueg got hooked by the guy.
It sounds like you critical asses would rather mop up the defecate AFTER the shit happens then be pro-active and snuff it out.
I was not trying to " put one over on him",i don't know the guy and who on here says"o thats much too cheap, let me give you more money then your asking".
It sounds like many of you have the same mindset that the airline screeners had on Christmas day letting some ass pay cash for a one-way ticket -----------sometimes you need to OPEN YOUR EYES to see things for what they really are!!!

Re: Fraud

This sounds very similar to the fraud that I actually was taken on (according to FL ATF I am victim number 12)... I am glad you were better at catching it than I was.

I would say that usually a person trying to fraud you will use some story or proof to try to gain your trust along with a "deal to good to be true". This way you may over look some things that should have made you more cautious or to forego the deal. I should have, but ignored them.

Was it armslist.com? That is where the guy posted that I was cheated except I was told to send money to Tampa, FL so I did. They even sent me an altered copy of someone else's FFL to try to gain more trust because they are a dealer...

This is supposedly according to ATF some kind of complicated nigerian scam. The story was different for me but key elements are similar.

Re: Fraud

As a victim of fraud having experience with this kind of situation first hand I would say encourage people to no longer send usps money orders. Despite what many people think about them being a safe way to pay for good it is not in my opinion. This is why... The only way USPS can do anything for you is if the money order WAS NOT CASHED. If it was cashed you money is GONE. The only protection USPS money orders offer you is if it was lost or stolen (person unable to cash). You sending it to the person addressed and them cashing it is not considered stolen to them apparently so they can not do anything once it is cashed. Although, USPS money orders are great for the sellers because they do not have to worry about checks bouncing or chargebacks.

It's supposed to be a slam.. You see... Cops eat donuts... Get it...

Re: Fraud

the slam was about local po po,I have friends that are L.E. and have great respect for what they do,and they listen to intel, info and advice. When something looks like a fish smells like a fish and swims like a fish it's best to treat it as such, and when i try to give intel and info to save someone a loss and I'm told "we can't do anything" my thought is --find a way!

Officer, "Sir we're here to investigate a report of you not returning your e-mails"
Right....

This isn't the movie Minority Report and you're not a Pre-Cog. You don't know exactly what occurred, only assumptions coupled with disappointment that you didn't get the tasty meal of a deal you thought you had in the bag. For some reason you've chosen to direct your frustration on the LEO's in Sugar Land, TX.

People bitch constantly about how LE is overstepping their authority by trying to have a conversation with someone unless the officer witnessed a crime being committed, yet you expect them to go harass someone based off of a telephone call from halfway across the country stating that you suspect this guy was trying to scam you because he wouldn't answer your emails? Give me a break.

Tell you what, go ask your LE friends what they would say or do if someone called them with the same information you provided here.

But I didn't get hooked by a guy, Leanedinshit did. Forethought is thinking the guy didn't realize what he had and trying to move quickly before he found out? The definition of a con is that it takes two schemers, both playing a game, only one of them has the initiative and the other is just greedy and usually dumb.

So who really is the Asshat?

LOL!

Re: Fraud

Occasionally when I put stuff on craigslist I get hit by people that offer me MORE money than I am asking, send the item FAST FAST FAST (Before the check clears) LOL

Most times here things are cool, Craigslist for me is CASH ONLY, and it's all good...

Sounds like it was a scam then, cuz $1200 would be a wet dream!

For future reference, when I drive thru McDonalds and you're working I like mine with lettuce, pickle and ketchup!

Re: Fraud

No,I did NOT get hooked, and with some Forethought and intelligence I avoided getting burnt and tried to alert L.E but to deaf ears.
You should try the Forethought and intelligence thing sometime,it's very rewarding
