"Friends" wanting to buy ammo

I get asked frequently. I politely tell them that I prepared for this situation, and that I have a use for everything I stocked up on. I have maybe two close friends that I would sell ammo to if they got in a pinch (weather disaster/fire etc...).

I get asked even more to take people hog hunting at night with me. They only want to use my limited gear, ammo, gas, and personal contacts that I've made with various landowners (along with the fact that I'm liable for their actions on someone else's property). They offer the privilege of their company as an exchange for this. This actually pisses me off, and kind of separates my true friend ls from the assholes in my mind.
I started hunting a piece of land and did all the work in the off season on it. (Food plots, putting stands up, keeping the access roads mowed)
Oh how some people that I thought I "knew" better just right before the season went and asked the landowner for permission because they knew he was the kind of guy that wouldn't say no to anyone. It took me 2 years of that that BS to convince him to lease it to me and a trusted friend to get the "moochers" off of it. And they had the audacity to get mad when I leased it and now control the access to hunt.
The same people who never lifted a finger or asked if they could help out or pay to defray costs associated with the upkeep.
It ended up costing me to lease it but ya know what ill pay it to not have to put up with the BS.

Ive had a couple "friends" that bought guns this year (which did include their adult kids) and hit me up asking if I knew where to get ammo. I only have a couple really close friends I gave a few boxes of ammo to.

I also get the "coming to your house" for SHTF discussions. I tell them if they make it, they better bring stuff to contribute to the house. No free rides...

Should it be "ass, or brass, nobody rides for free"
This is what ive told people. But when people ask for ammo i tell them “i sold it, made damn good money on it too. Now i am waiting for prices to come down, just like you”. They won’t come to your door after that. Best part is its true!

.
This thread by now.

You: I'm prepared, armed and have ammo

Friends, co-workers, distant family members: If SHTF we're coming to your house

You: You have ammo, gun or skill set that could be useful.

Them: No, but we can use what you have.

You: Might want to duck on the way in. Could get mighty unhealthy if you don't. While you're at it. Might also want to read up on treating GSWs.

Them: Why?

You: No reason
if it came down to it, i would let them in, give them all something to shoot, while i do my best josey wales impression to keep the enemy at bay.
i'd get a fire going, and put iron in the fire too. :p

All things are finite. Food, water, shelter and ammo. I planned for my family. I don't have the resources to invite "tag alongs" into my house or property. If you didn't have the forethought to prepare for at least some event, then that's not my fault.

I don't have any loyalties to anyone but my family. PERIOD!

Failure to plan is a plan for failure. It's pretty simple.
Every animal in the kingdom prepares for the seasons. Except many of the humans. There's a reason welfare is a problem in the country. Trillions have been spent to fix it. I certainly don't aim to try. I aim to take care of me and mine.

Welfare was never meant to fix anything. Welfare is meant to keep you in servitude. They pay you just enough to keep you alive. They pay you to have more servants. Welfare has never and will never fix the problems we have. But since the Demwits pay you to stay home, those who are on welfare will never vote out a free ride, no matter how basic it is.

I had a guy tell me that he just bought a new rifle. I asked what it was and he said it was a blah blah blah 6.5. Did you get some ammo for it I asked. Hell, do you know how much they wanted for it, he said. You wouldn't have any to sell me would you, he continued. Yeah no, I don't shoot the ghey caliber. I have some 308 though. You will have a pretty nice wall hanger though if you don't want to spend $3 a round. Just think about those guys that have been paying over $5 a pop for the 50 BMG stuff all these years. They'd gladly pay 3.
That's when he walked away

I'm not going to derail this thread. And I don't want to post the off topic here. So go to the other thread and check out the link I post.

I would have bought all the 50bmg for $5 in the last 5 years I could have found. That stuff is insanely expensive. Unless you want milsurplus.

None yet, but I don't think most know what I have.
If someone does ask for ammo or guns, I will just laugh in their face. Get your own shit, or die crying in fear.
I think I'm the only one around me that has shot in the last few months since deer season ended. Then again, it's winter here in northern Michigan. So not many out in the snow putting some trigger time in.

I am generally willing to help those in need. If I have some to sell, I sell it at prices that were before things went bat shit crazy. I will not screw people with some ridiculous price on a box of ammo. I feel that charging insane prices will only drive people away from the hobby and right now, we need all the support we can get. I saw on Gun Broker where someone wanted $1750.00 for 200 rounds of 6.5 PRC. Prices like this WILL KILL OUR INDUSTRY.

Wait.... you guys have friends?!? Haha.

I had a friend recently ask if I’d teach him and another guy how to shoot. I told them sure, all they have to do is bring the ammo.

He has no idea,lol

You probably won't be seeing them anytime soon.

I see what you are saying. But there were 4.5 million NIC checks last month. There's a lot of people getting into the "Hobby" with or without being someone's sugar daddy for ammo.
Just saying.

And then what happens if there's some type of prolonged situation and you need ammo? Do you think someone is going to sell you their ammo for 2018 prices? Absolutely not. Either keep it for bartering or for shooting.

Like I said before, it's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

Those that think that 1 firearm in their house will be sufficient may also be kidding themselves.

There are damned few that I let know enough to think they'd want to come to my place if SHTF. Of those that do, most have their own stash. The others know I like my dog better than almost everyone else, so they are just a mobile zero-verification if they come around.

When the initial lockdown hit last March I had a customer reach out. He’s from a “questionable” part of the state to say the least

“Yo bro I need some 223 and 50 lbs of venison hook me up. Unless you could do 100 lbs of venison that would be better. I’d take beef or pork if you don’t have venison and I only need 500 rds of 223. Do you have any 9mm?”

I’m usually pretty quick witted. Sometimes to a fault. It took me so off guard I couldn’t even talk. I just hung the phone up. When he called back I had a polite “get fucked” answer scripted. Told him I didn’t keep any surplus of anything on hand. He then hinted around at the city folk heading to the country when things got rough.

I made a couple adjustments after that phone call.

I have a few good friends in a network that we keep an eye out for each other when ammo or components are needed.

I've had a few people say to me (I'm hoping it was jokingly) that they're coming my way if the SHTF. I always respond they need to bring plenty of food, as that's one thing I'm lacking, and barely have enough for me.

I then tell them, my engagement zone is 700-yards and in, and if they are inbound, and I don't see pizza and beer in hand, shots will be fired.

My friend is the definition of FUDD. LOVES to hunt, and occasionally shoot (maybe once a year if I beg him to go). Been telling him for years to wake the fuck up, pay attention, and out down the mixed drinks now and again an make some effort to support the groups defending his 2A enjoyment.

When he finally realized what was happening he asked me to start buying this and that so I could reload ammo FOR HIM. I told him no fuckin way. I can hardly locate what I need to so I can occasionally shoot and not about to become his personal ammo plant.

If "helping a friend" means tossing him a mag in a firefight, then yeah. Otherwise you're just enabling them and they'll never put in the work, just reap the benefits.

I'm telling people to find a shotgun and hope they can find shotgun shells. I think there are more shotguns available than rifles. As far as ammo, I'm not sure if you can find anything, but maybe shotgun shells will be more plentiful.

Shot shells were pretty available for quite a long time last year and nobody gave it much thought while they were buying up all the pistol and rifle ammo.
Then suddenly all the shotgun ammo vanished and those putting it off were caught short.

How many of you have been approched by "Friends" or "Family" wanting to buy some ammo and or guns? You know the type, the same ones you were telling a year or 2 ago to buy what they needed then and they gave you the Silly Sally, it won't get that bad shit and are now on the outside looking in?

I didn't listen to AJ much so I have nothing to help them out with but I am also not ammo broke, but I am "Woke."

It certainly does make you wonder who your friends are when they thought you were such a fool back then.

I don't even think of the guys and gals I shoot with nor group them in with the question above as I know they have enough but I do some trading with them. I always let them know I will fuck them out of something else I need down the road and let it go at that/And we all keep shooting, just use fewer rounds.

How is it going for you?
I have a few that have tried playing the sympathy card. Question is how did it work out for them when they asked.
I have no obligation to anyone. My shooting buds are all well stocked like I am.
I still buy as much as I can although it is far less often than it used to be.
My firm belief is that someone’s lack of preparation is not my problem. If they unfriend me, it really matters not.
My true friends would not ask me for anything. They are as well prepared if not better

I’m selling my best buddy 150rds of 9mm for what I paid for it in 2018. I only have a couple thousand but he has nothing. I don’t hesitate to help someone out if they’re close to me and need it. It’s not really a handout though.

a few years back, i bought a youth bow for my kid from a guy i worked with. he squeezed me for every penny he could back then. i did buy it. never forgot the way he handled that. there have been several times since where if he had been reasonable with me, he would have been paid back many times over.

saturday he was fishing for primers and powder. and i remembered the way he was in regards to the bow.

funny how the folks who want every last penny they can for what they are selling, are the same ones that want you to cut them deals when you have what they want or need. FUCK those folks.

**edit** i forgot to add that about a year before i went over to look at the bow, i had given the same guy a guitar amp i had laying around that i wasnt using. that, and various other things at work that i didnt HAVE to do, but elected TO do it, so as to make his life easier. so there was an established history of me being a guy that had done him a few favors before.

I warned all my friends who are a bit newer to the game.
I now laugh as the ones who ignored my wisdom.

I gave a couple boxes of 12ga buckshot to a friend who just got a shotgun gifted to him. I also showed a co worker how to reload a few days ago. I did sell him some reloads. My reasoning being, it's good to have friends who aren't helpless. Kinda the team mentality ya know? I'm still well stocked and now I have some friends with ammo.

i treat them all the same and they all get the same price and that's whatever the current replacement price is. If they want it fine if not, they'll b back and it will probably be higher i tell them

Gave one of my PD friends a 200 round battle pack of 7.62x51 last summer- no strings attached. He was caught at zero. He sold me 500 rounds of 9/5.56 at his cost in December. Win for both of us.

It's just the wife and I. If the Schumer hits, it will be friends who carry us through. We've got enough for awhile so I'll share with friends but won't sell a thing to strangers.

I've had a couple of casual friends ask and told them I'm short and not parting with any. My youngest Daughter got married a couple of months ago and my new son in law asked last week about getting some 9. I gave him 150 and told him I have a few more when you prove to me your worthy.
I'm concerned that you waited to begin the vetting till after he became family. ;)

Only gone up. 6-8 weeks ago 6.5CM was 1.67 a round. Today, 4.00 a round. Cheap ass PMC 308 147gr (or was it 149gr) was still high at 0.87; today, almost $1.50. That 380 I laughed at in Nov at 800 per 1K is now 1600 per 1k.

Seems like price is not going down and supply not really backing up as a result of high prices. That's panic buying. Truth be told, I thought I was panic buying at $1.67/round 2 months ago to stock up what I'd shot debugging my upper.

I think the interesting thing will be to see when the supply line starts moving. It's obviously dispersed over a very wide range of venders making it appear none is being manufactured. I also know they don't generally run a line for each round all year, that say 270 Win is made from March-April and that's it (something like that). Other lines I imagine are always on, 22LR, 223, 308.

I told a few of my friends in MAY that they better starting buying or they'll not have any at all. Of course, they all have wheel guns and 38 SPL was one of the very first to go poof into thin air. Then they tried to game system and buy a cheap 9mm (Skyy) and find ammo...by the time that happened, poof, that was gone too. Another was heart set on a 22TCM 1911. Poooof, that went too. Sorry, but I have no sympathy for them. They were warned, said I was some kind of fruit loop, and now look at them.
Had an old boss in the Marine Corps (many years ago) that used to say ... "Sympathy" is in the dictionary between "Shit" and "Syphilis".
