"Friends" wanting to buy ammo

I get asked frequently. I politely tell them that I prepared for this situation, and that I have a use for everything I stocked up on. I have maybe two close friends that I would sell ammo to if they got in a pinch (weather disaster/fire etc...).

I get asked even more to take people hog hunting at night with me. They only want to use my limited gear, ammo, gas, and personal contacts that I've made with various landowners (along with the fact that I'm liable for their actions on someone else's property). They offer the privilege of their company as an exchange for this. This actually pisses me off, and kind of separates my true friend ls from the assholes in my mind.

I started hunting a piece of land and did all the work in the off season on it. (Food plots, putting stands up, keeping the access roads mowed)
Oh how some people that I thought I "knew" better just right before the season went and asked the landowner for permission because they knew he was the kind of guy that wouldn't say no to anyone. It took me 2 years of that that BS to convince him to lease it to me and a trusted friend to get the "moochers" off of it. And they had the audacity to get mad when I leased it and now control the access to hunt.
The same people who never lifted a finger or asked if they could help out or pay to defray costs associated with the upkeep.
It ended up costing me to lease it but ya know what ill pay it to not have to put up with the BS.

I also get the "coming to your house" for SHTF discussions. I tell them if they make it, they better bring stuff to contribute to the house. No free rides...

This is what ive told people. But when people ask for ammo i tell them “i sold it, made damn good money on it too. Now i am waiting for prices to come down, just like you”. They won’t come to your door after that. Best part is its true!

if it came down to it, i would let them in, give them all something to shoot, while i do my best josey wales impression to keep the enemy at bay.

They'd gladly pay 3.

I will not screw people with some ridiculous price on a box of ammo. I feel that charging insane prices will only drive people away from the hobby and right now, we need all the support we can get. I see what you are saying. But there were 4.5 million NIC checks last month. There's a lot of people getting into the "Hobby" with or without being someone's sugar daddy for ammo.

And then what happens if there's some type of prolonged situation and you need ammo? Do you think someone is going to sell you their ammo for 2018 prices? Absolutely not. Either keep it for bartering or for shooting.

Like I said before, it's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

Those that think that 1 firearm in their house will be sufficient may also be kidding themselves.

I’m usually pretty quick witted. Sometimes to a fault. It took me so off guard I couldn’t even talk. I just hung the phone up. When he called back I had a polite “get fucked” answer scripted. Told him I didn’t keep any surplus of anything on hand. He then hinted around at the city folk heading to the country when things got rough.

I made a couple adjustments after that phone call.

I have a few good friends in a network that we keep an eye out for each other when ammo or components are needed.

I've had a few people say to me (I'm hoping it was jokingly) that they're coming my way if the SHTF. I always respond they need to bring plenty of food, as that's one thing I'm lacking, and barely have enough for me.

I then tell them, my engagement zone is 700-yards and in, and if they are inbound, and I don't see pizza and beer in hand, shots will be fired.

My friend is the definition of FUDD. LOVES to hunt, and occasionally shoot (maybe once a year if I beg him to go). Been telling him for years to wake the fuck up, pay attention, and out down the mixed drinks now and again an make some effort to support the groups defending his 2A enjoyment.

When he finally realized what was happening he asked me to start buying this and that so I could reload ammo FOR HIM. I told him no fuckin way. I can hardly locate what I need to so I can occasionally shoot and not about to become his personal ammo plant.

If "helping a friend" means tossing him a mag in a firefight, then yeah. Otherwise you're just enabling them and they'll never put in the work, just reap the benefits.

I'm telling people to find a shotgun and hope they can find shotgun shells. I think there are more shotguns available than rifles. As far as ammo, I'm not sure if you can find anything, but maybe shotgun shells will be more plentiful.

Shot shells were pretty available for quite a long time last year and nobody gave it much thought while they were buying up all the pistol and rifle ammo.
Then suddenly all the shotgun ammo vanished and those putting it off were caught short.

I didn't listen to AJ much so I have nothing to help them out with but I am also not ammo broke, but I am "Woke."

It certainly does make you wonder who your friends are when they thought you were such a fool back then.

I don't even think of the guys and gals I shoot with nor group them in with the question above as I know they have enough but I do some trading with them. I always let them know I will fuck them out of something else I need down the road and let it go at that/And we all keep shooting, just use fewer rounds.

a few years back, i bought a youth bow for my kid from a guy i worked with. he squeezed me for every penny he could back then. i did buy it. never forgot the way he handled that. there have been several times since where if he had been reasonable with me, he would have been paid back many times over.

Only gone up. 6-8 weeks ago 6.5CM was 1.67 a round. Today, 4.00 a round. Cheap ass PMC 308 147gr (or was it 149gr) was still high at 0.87; today, almost $1.50. That 380 I laughed at in Nov at 800 per 1K is now 1600 per 1k.

Seems like price is not going down and supply not really backing up as a result of high prices. That's panic buying. Truth be told, I thought I was panic buying at $1.67/round 2 months ago to stock up what I'd shot debugging my upper.

I think the interesting thing will be to see when the supply line starts moving. It's obviously dispersed over a very wide range of venders making it appear none is being manufactured. I also know they don't generally run a line for each round all year, that say 270 Win is made from March-April and that's it (something like that). Other lines I imagine are always on, 22LR, 223, 308.

I told a few of my friends in MAY that they better starting buying or they'll not have any at all. Of course, they all have wheel guns and 38 SPL was one of the very first to go poof into thin air. Then they tried to game system and buy a cheap 9mm (Skyy) and find ammo...by the time that happened, poof, that was gone too. Another was heart set on a 22TCM 1911. Poooof, that went too. Sorry, but I have no sympathy for them. They were warned, said I was some kind of fruit loop, and now look at them.

Had an old boss in the Marine Corps (many years ago) that used to say ... "Sympathy" is in the dictionary between "Shit" and "Syphilis".
