Maggie’s Funny & awesome pics, vids and memes thread (work safe, no nudity)

Last week of March will make that tough I think. 😉
Will do on a summer trip.

Just peeked and they do have steam engine trips on the train the week of our trip. 😁
My daughter saw a pic on the screen and was super excited.

Another hint. If you can get an early road trip to Silverton and spend some extra time poking around the shops. Then ride the train back to Durango. Downhill is much quieter and the scenery is the same. And you get to see the Million Dollar Highway as well.

Thank you,

million dollar highway is more exciting in a snowstorm, with icy roads. ;)

I once drove Durango to Silverton in a good storm, about 2330 hrs we left Durango.

14” on the road and still coming steady as we went over Coal Bank and Molas passes.

Met a plow at the last switchback before Silverton.
Fella told us we must be crazy mountain people. 🤣
“Whisky River” blasting, flannel shirts, and loving life!!!

Silverton Mtn the next day had snow mid thigh on skis 115mm under foot.
Back country the next day was just as good, maybe a better.

Oh the days.

You are absolutely correct. I drove it every work day from Durango to the Sunnyside mine for the year I worked there.

One of my hands got caught in a slide. Shoved him to the guardrail and tipped him up a mite but stopped. The driver of the beer truck just in front of him was in no condition to drive when the loaders and plows got to them. Once we were told not come to work the next day if the weather was clear. They were bombing the slides from a chopper because there were scared to shoot them from below. Nothing came down. Little puckery driving up the next day. There were 86 slide paths between my house and the mine. We never put the E-brake on if working swing or grave. They would freeze solid some of the time. A plow driver told me it was a boring job until you tagged a stump with the wing blade.

Ahh, the tricks of that time of my life.

There was flyover video of 550 from Silverton to Quray from 2019 which basically buried that section of highway and took weeks to open the road. In places slides buried portions of the road in over 60 feet of snow. Been up there in some serious storms and it is both impressive and downright dangerous if not prepared. Was staying in Vallecito one winter and it took us a full day of clearing snow to get the vehicles out.
