I saw Hoyt twice , J.J. Cale , Leon Russell , Willis Alan Ramsey , Steve Fromholz , Rusty Weir and others between Fayetteville, Tulsa , Austin tween 75-79. Fresh out of the Nav ,ended up going to the U of A. Fayetteville…. Great music scene 🍻
Single and felt Free ! 😜 Had a “revolving door“ policy in place , got more ass than a toilet seat . A college degree was also a GI Bill benefit I’ll always appreciate .
Life has been 80-90% awesome. Got that going for me. 👍
Used to watch Rusty Weir all the time in and around Austin. We were regulars at the Saxon Pub where he played. Great musician.
A buddy and his wife hired his son to play at a private party recently.

That looks cool but is about an 8 hour drive away to the beginning of the trail. Not something I could do on a day trip with the kids. Maybe someday.
Yup.....
You'll top a hill, look out 60 miles at the next mountain and say, yup, we are going over that one eventually.
It's cool as hell when you are back there. (there's a short cut from what I'm told that's only a 3 hour drive), you come up the back from Rosevelt Lake.
Pack guns, you are out the in middle of BFE and the nearest help is 6- 8 hours a way, IF you can get reception.

Now imagine you are Lewis and Clark. No map. No idea where you are. You have to carry everything. And winter is coming soon. If it hits while you are in the mountains, you all die and no one probably even finds a trace of you.

Amazing country out there in 2024. Imagine it in 1805.

Yup… they were 1000 miles Or so North. But still. The folks who opened up the USA had some serious fortitude!
