Yeah since I stopped participating in those type discussions my blood pressure is lower, my mental state is like a baby with no worries and my penis is longer and thicker too.
This might not look like much to you internet speed freaks, but for those of us who live in the sticks it is an absolute miracle.
Bought a cell signal booster kit with a directional outdoor antenna and an indoor amp.
We went from “1X” service with occasionally 1 bar of 3G....barely able to send a picture text... to 3-4 bars of LTE!
It is fast on my old iPhone and iPad and simply having solid internet without crashing is SO NICE.
It simply mounts outside, pointing in the direction of the nearest tower (use Open Signal to determine direction) and then you route the coaxial cable inside to the tiny indoor amp and antenna.
I was very skeptical but reviews on Amazon were good and after talking to the only internet service we could get I took the chance. They were telling me that the fastest we would possibly see was 3mbps due to our location and it was going to be $55/mo!
Glad I took the chance, for $135 it is a bargain.

i need one on our property but starting at $1200, and it only works on 1 carrier per unit (3 carriers here). and there is only 1 brand that is authorised by .gov to be used in australia. the rest which are only sold online are prohibited and fines apply when caught.
for $1200+ i prefer the peace and quiet and money better spent on ammo.

internet I have using 4g/LTE as I have 2 numbers in one device. calls are the issue. reception is so bad on 3g that it will show you have a bar but nothing happens. my father is mostly deaf and can't hear the phone that much so spending $1200 plus on an authorised signal booster is not something I want to throw money at, one time deal compared to starlink. I live in the big smoke and not on the property so it doesn't affect me as such. cheers in any case

Been there done that. The "ton" thing seems stupid to me. You don't order concrete by the ton. You order it by the cubic yard.
One yard of concrete will cover 80 sqft 4 inches thick.
While I understand that concrete is a "liquid" vs solid rock (gravel).
Knowing length x width and depth you wanted ordering by the yard would be a lot simpler.
Just saying. I can calculate volume easy, weight not so much.

One ton of gravel equals about 18 cubic feet, so 1.5 tons is about a yard. Fortunately for me, the local places all sell by the yard if delivered; if you're hauling your own in a dump trailer you're back to tons. I guess weighing is the only way they really know what's in your trailer.

I ran a rock crusher for a few years while I did maintenance on heavy equipment. I live in the PNW and all the yards push selling rock by the ton. The yard I worked for sold it by the ton. A reason was because we could scale trucks, versus measure volume.
On the other hand we always measured our volume to weight in the summer.
Lucky. We got about an inch of ice. Lost power on Friday Afternoon/evening and still have none. No internet except intermittent cell data. Mostly in the middle of the night when load is down.
Lost a lot of limbs and three whole trees. Sold my 2nd Honda generator to people in need so I can’t run nearly as much now. Heat, freezers, lights. I ordered a new one to replace it and at this rate it might be here before this is over.
it was over 50 degrees today so ice is all gone. Nothing left but the carnage. Gas stations that had power all ran out of gas on Sunday. I keep about 15 gallons on hand most of the time and always make sure the 50gal tank in my boat is full and stabilized for the winter. Honda 2200 runs on about 3 gal a day. If I run them in tandem I have about 10 days of fuel on hand over the winter. I usually alternate them running though if it’s bad and not too warm to stretch it out.

Ah, born in the age of non-distributor ignition systems, I see.
We are supposed to get a boatload of freezing rain Thursday, my area may get up to 1/2”. I say “may“ because the Yadkin Valley is an odd place where predicting weather is a best guess scenario. Sometimes the bad $#@& from Galax comes down and bites us and sometimes the warmer air from the valley wins. Even when Winston gets hammered with ice many times we don’t, it’s a geographical oddity ...... Could go either way.
I ran 10-3 wire to my panel yesterday and then to an outlet under my shelter so now I’m ready to easily get the gennie up and going to power anything in the panel by cycling breakers/circuits. I think I’ll ride to Rural King and get 2 more utility jugs and get 10 more gallons of gasoline. I put Sta-Bil 360 Marine in all my fuel to neutralize ethanol and also put a little Sea Foam in it, never had even some big saws that I rarely run to fail to start with that combo.
Gennie is a 6000w, will run the furnace, fridge, well and lights (well pumps draw a big wallop on startup!) Can cook on the grill. Living in the sticks has many many perks but you gotta be prepared with a certain self sufficiency. I wouldn’t trade it for anything

)I have ordered an 18k BTU mini-split for this little house and a propane wall heater for emergencies only. I don’t feel there’s enough room for a wood stove in here even though I have tons of wood ready to go.
When we build our new house we’ll have another wood stove, I really miss that security.
