What is your longest distance shooting the 155 gr Scenar, velocity and barrel length? I keep hearing it's not possible to reach a high enough velocity to remain supersonic at 1300 yards, but JBM's figures are quite the contrary. Unless the gen 1 bc values are skewing the numbers. Thanks for the info.

+1 very simmilar to my 308 load in my Kimber LPT and very accurate.

+1 very simmilar to my 308 load in my Kimber LPT and very accurate.
I have used them in a 300 Rum @ 3550 fps never did shoot them that far though, didn't have the gear too way back then, they were very accurate in it as well

Consistent at 1300 with an AIAW 26" 2960fps. My buddy went 8 out of 10 with it on a man sized plate. I've also seen 175's hold vertical perfectly at 1600, just getting smacked around by the wind.

my m1a shot scenars @ 2750 over 46g of varget from winnie cases - chronyed on a cool 10c day. accuracy was sub moa, till one day the gun turned into a 2moa rifle. thats a subject for another thread, but over a couple years i fired 700 scenars from my m1a on steel out to 1k and it was perfectly acceptable. 34 moa to 1k. the only bullet that would shoot better groups @ 100-200yds from my m1a than the scenar was sierra 165gkhps. my particular rifle didnt care much for s175s

only way to keep it supersonic @ 1300yds assuming std atmoshere at sea level, is to launch it @ 3350fps... so you would need a 300RUM or something similar like a big .30 wildcat... G7 BC of the 155 scenar is .236 in case you were wondering...

I was wondering about that. The more I see on the G7 BC's, the more confused I get. If the numbers are correct, I had no problem making it to 1k launching 175 gr SMK's at 2500 fps out of my 18.5" barrel. That works out to about 1053 fps given G7 numbers and the atmospheric conditions for the day.
Most of the service rifle shooters were scratching their heads.

Most of the guys that have shot ASC have shot them out to 1200 ish. I know someone who has shot them to 1500. I didn't witness it nor do I know the specifics but this guys word is good.

I've found as long as you can get them between 2900 and 3000fps, they're very predictable out to 1100 yards.

Tried them 1400m/1530yds. MV 2788. Worked surprisingly well, considering the wind was nasty. In any case, bullet seemed to be still stable and predictable.
Wind was throwing impacts left and right, and big ES I had little up and down, but I was damn close to torso-size target all time during 15-shot or so string.

I have shot them to 1100m with good hits at 2980 fps. At 1200m I just lost them with no hits. This at 400 ft above sea level in +20C. Barrel 24" in 308 Win. Of course wind was playing too but then I shot at 1100m targets again and connected them again. I believe they destabilized beoyond 1100m but have no proof.

Those of you that are loading with 47+ of varget, how are you doing it? I'm crunching grains at 46...lapua brass, though. Is there that much more volume in win brass?

Depending on seating depth yes. I don't shoot 155's but I use Lapua brass and Win brass. I don't have case volume numbers in front of me but it is a lot if I remember.

DH. Contact (PM) Darrell Buell. He's on team savage and runs the Scenars out to 1K with his FTR rifle. He has won just about everything there is to win in that class and I know he would have some great info for ya. Steve.

Well, I guess I see where some of you are able to squeeze more powder in yours. My loads are 2.835, which puts me .010 off the lands of my Savage FCP-k. Must have a long or worn throat to get a 2.875" round to chamber?

Yeah the lands were touching at 2.84" in my 10 FCP-HS also with the 155 Scenars. And to think our mag length is 3.0"

I am betting that if you worked out the ballistics of the 338LM round, you would not think 1.54 miles would be doable either.

3400ft, 43RH, 104f. I shot 15 rounds, we had a hard time spotting the impacts for adjustment, after I corrected, 9 shots - 4 hit, 5 missed laterally within a few inches of the plate. We were shooting .338LM, but I figured I'd give the 308 a go at that distance.

Well, I haven't taken the 155's past 1000, but today they performed better at 1000 than my 175smk loads. So the plan is to see how they do at 1200, which is the farthest out that the local range goes. The 175's were all over the place for me the last time I took them to 1200 so I'm hoping for better out of the 155 scenars...

I have a 300 12 Egg Mag that will push them just over 4000fps with 117gr of Retumbo out of a 30 inch Obermeyer. I suspect I could get US869 or another 50BMG powder to push them near 4,100. I have another 13-15 grains of case capacity before I'm at 100%. Retumbo is just the slowest stuff I can get my paws right now. Not like 4k is slow, I guess.
I have NO IDEA how far it will push them. If there is someone in Central CA that has a patch of land long enough to try, I'd love to see. Hell, you can shoot it. I'll watch.
The novelty of a mach 4 155 scenar wears off in exacty THREE rounds.

I hope You manage to get bullet airborne in one piece -with those velocities there are massive g-forces involved. Jacketed bullet can take only certain amount of punishment.

I have a 300 12 Egg Mag that will push them just over 4000fps with 117gr of Retumbo out of a 30 inch Obermeyer. I suspect I could get US869 or another 50BMG powder to push them near 4,100.
I have NO IDEA how far it will push them. If there is someone in Central CA that has a patch of land long enough to try, I'd love to see. Hell, you can shoot it. I'll watch.

I hope You manage to get bullet airborne in one piece -with those velocities there are massive g-forces involved. Jacketed bullet can take only certain amount of punishment.

If anyone has a handful of 110s they want me to try, I'd be happy to load up a few and see how fast I can get them to go, if they stay together.

That's too bad you mention only Central CA, I have a spot to shoot that's just a bit shy of 2600 yards. Even so, JBM says they won't make it all the way to 1 mile supersonic at local conditions here. Regardless, you'll "only" need 39moa up to get to 1700 yards.

We didn't have a chrono out there, but I think he was dialing around .3 mils to 300 yards. Did I mention the FTE brake on the rifle is amazing! Felt like my TRG-22 sans brake. For anyone who is wondering what the 12 egg is, it is a 30-378 weatherby with the shoulder blown forward .200".

It is a 30-378 with a "Gibbs" neck. The shoulder is actually blown forward .200" increasing the case capacity of the 30-378 to approximately 128 grains. Nearly 3x the 308 Win. Unfortunately not 3x the performance.
In November it appears we (me and at least one other SH member) will try to set some 155 Scenar records. That of course is dependent on me taking a monster buck in the first couple days of deer season.

Hoping that we can get a shot setup for you to make, i'm sure there are going to be a several cameras rolling to capture it. Hopefully everything will fall in place to allow it to happen, a good hard freeze to harden up the ground would be great, then mud won't be a concern.
Something that i'm thinking I should ask, does your scope have enough built in elevation to make a 2500+ yard shot? Looks to likely be around 126moa or 37mils. BTW, the craziest thing is that the flight looks to be over 5 seconds long!

I don't have a rail with that many MOA built in. I'll start working on it. I think I can get one with 60 MOA, and possibly bring a 20 MOA riser for a total of 80 MOA.
What I don't have is an optic with enough mag to get to 2500. All I have are 3-15s right now. I'll see if I can't trade my PH for something that will work.
I'll have to see if I can get my hands on something 8-32 or 12-42.
