Re: GA Precision GAP-10

I ordered 20" 308 Green in Feb recieved it mid May so mine took a little over 3 months. there were a couple earlier posts where George said they had a bunch of lowers assembled and uppers barreled and at that time were waiting on handguards?

sounds like it could be sooner than 3 mo. once parts flowing regularly, apparantly it takes a couple weeks longer if you want a color other than black.

Pretty resonable wait especially considering what you are getting....... SWEET ASS RIFLE! Absolutly no slop between upper and lower...at all....Bartlein Barrel...One of, if not the best....period, functions flawlessly. You boys are in for a real treat.

gona be a fun summer!

Re: GA Precision GAP-10

I just wanted to share some pics of my newest acquisition. It took exactly 2 months to the day for the good people at Gap to finish it up. The guys at the gun store were absolutely drooling over this rifle when I unboxed it. Fit, finish and function (unfired) are flawless and the weapon balances very nicely with the 18.5" barrel. I went for the exact configuration showcased on the website. I am thinking about ditching work tomorrow so I can put some rounds down range. It sounds cliche at this point, but it was well worth the wait.

Now for pics:

Re: GA Precision GAP-10

does anyone have one of these rifle yet with an AAC 51T mount on the end? I ordered an 18" barrel version that will be threaded and I am going to put on an AAC 51T mount (cant decide on the brakeout or blackout yet though) and I would like to see what it looks like and how it shoots? Thanks...

M14er, nice rifle btw.. Cannot wait to get mine.....

yep. It's a 3.5-15x50mm<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: KYS338</div><div class="ubbcode-body"><div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: tnichols</div><div class="ubbcode-body">m14er: Is that a 50mm or 56mm objective on that NF? </div></div>

Re: GA Precision GAP-10

Do you think there enough room for the 56mm with the rings supplied (I believe the spec sheet says it comes with B.O. rings) or would you stick with a 50mm objective? I just put a 3.5-15X56 on my wife's RR and there is ample room with Badger's "AR" or Ultra High (can't remember what they call them) rings.

Re: GA Precision GAP-10

I think there would be enough clearance for a 56mm objective but you will definitely have trouble getting BC caps or even the Nightforce supplied rubber cover on/off. I would move up to next taller height BO rings if it were me.<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: tnichols</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Do you think there enough room for the 56mm with the rings supplied (I believe the spec sheet says it comes with B.O. rings) or would you stick with a 50mm objective? Re: GA Precision GAP-10

I had a chance to shoot the rifle yesterday and was thoroughly impressed with the results. Let me preface by saying I do not have a lot of experience shooting the "AR" platform and it will take some work on my part to improve. That said, I immediately started shooting groups in the .5"-1" range at 100 yds. I chrono'd my long range pet load I normally shoot in my Surgeon (24" barrel) loaded to mag-length through the GAP 10 (18.5" barrel) with a result of 2565 fps average for 8 shots. It was only a loss in 79 fps from the longer barreled Surgeon- I can live with that.
I spent most of the day dialing in the optics and breaking the barrel in so I did not shoot this rifle prone which I beleive will help improve my accuracy.
I will have an opportunity this month to shoot steel at 800-1000 yds at RockCastle (thanks to KY338/Ace/MrsAce) and am looking forward to seeing what this rifle can really do. If you are looking for a high-end big boy AR this is the rifle for you. GAP really has put something quite special together with this gun.

It might sit a tad high but its not bad. Nope those are rings I had on hand, GAP recommends a 50mm Objective for the included rings.....mines 58mm.

I seriously doubt it, barrel lengths are 16.5 to 22 inches in length... <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: Dantrom</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Are they going to make a 12"???? </div></div>

Re: GA Precision GAP-10

Tony, I havent put mine (18", with nightforce) on the scale yet, but it feels about as light and balanced as my Gladius. It is a bit nose heavy with the surefire can on it, though.

Re: GA Precision GAP-10

I just weighed mine on a digital bathroom scale - not sure how accurate it is. I got 13.0 pounds. That's with an 18.5" fluted barrel, magpul prs, Surefire brake, Nightforce F1 with sunshade on, no magazine or ammo, no bipod. My guess is the 13.0 number is close if not spot on.

Good looking gun! I have one coming in FDE. Did you ask for the black grip or is that what it came with?

Thanks. I was pretty specific on how I wanted the metal done but I did not specify on the grip. It came with black.

Re: GA Precision GAP-10

After 6 months of saving and head pounding, I have finally made the decision to buy one of these rifles. I have never bought a precision rifle before so I was hoping for a little guidance from the pros.

My experience has been strictly with AR15s that have chrome or stainless lined barrels. I basically just shoot and clean them. What sort of special precautions should I take with this new rifle? I thought I had downloaded an adobe file that talked about barrel break-in but I cannot find it on the GA site any more. I also noticed pictures of LL cleaning his gun at the range so I figure that I should baby this gun a little more than I do my ARs.

The next question I have is ammo. I do not reload and will not for a few years at least. What are some good options for off the shelf rounds for this rifle?

What range do you guys zero these at?

Sorry for some basic questions here but I only shoot AR15s and none of them are precision sticks. Thanks for the advice!

Sean

Classic. You have to understand that Lowlight is a <span style="font-style: italic">notorious gun-cleaner</span>. It has gotten to the point he almost doesn't get an opportunity to shoot because of cleaning between <span style="font-style: italic">every single round</span> fired while at the range (LOL).

Seriously, that picture may be the only one ever captured of LL cleaning a weapon while at the range. See what kind of vicious rumors just a single photograph can start??? Really, when you get the new rifle, take it and shoot it. Enjoy the hell out of it, and you can worry about cleaning it when you get home. Unless you plan on running hundreds of rounds (or more) through it on Day 1, it won't hurt it to shoot it.

Regarding a break-in procedure, read the following thread (link below). Pay particularly close attention to the response by "A10XRIFLE". Then you can decide how or if you wish to do a break-in procedure. If you really just HAVE to do it, you can still find a pdf file outlining the procedure at the GAP website under "About Us", then click on the "Downloads" link at lower left.
