GAP10 6.5CM

Looking for personal experience with the GAP10 in 6.5CM. I placed an order for one yesterday with a 20 inch barrel.

What grain bullet do they seem to like? I need to start acquiring ammo. It looks like my only options until I start reloading is the 140 amax, 120 amax, and 129 sst.

Hornady is the only company making loaded ammo for it right now so yes those are your only choices. I reload So I have yet to try them out, but what I have read says there is little to be gained in accuracy by reloading. Might save yourself a few cents and gain a little accuracy but probably not worth diving in to reloading just for that. Buy the way..I love the round in a bolt gun...can't speak to an auto loader...YET! good luck

I don't have a GAP but the 140s shoot sub moa in my dpms and savage. Hornady does a good job.

I'm looking at either the 6.5x47 Lapua or 6XC on a Mega build.

If you reload I've heard Creedmoor brass is a little hard to come buy - that might be old news though.

Not sure on the delivery date. I was told they are running 1 to 2 months. Talked to George and he said to run 130's over 42-43 grains H4350.

Going to be a good start of the year. I have a Kukri coming from Blackops Precision and the GAP10. Can't wait to get them out to the range.

they are BAD ASS! had never shot one before, used one for fall PMG, freaking awesome gun, ran and ran and ran with not a single issue, i oiled it once at teh start of the weekend and never touched it again.

What caliber did you get it in? I have not seen much talk of the GAP10 in 6.5CM.

I shot one in 6.5 it wasn't mine it was a friends but was a awesome platform and caliber combination definately high on my list.

There are really available ammo in 6.5, 260 etc that can run in ar10's and George and Mccourt munitions is loading the 6cm there will be no worries with any of them

I have a GAP10 in 260 but my bolt gun is 6.5CM. If George gave advice on which pill to run out of it, I'd ABSOLUTELY follow his advice. I mean, he'd know.

If you're going to reload, I'd highly recommend picking up a bunch of brass whenever you find it available. Sometimes it dries up and I can't imagine anything worse than getting a new hammer from GAP and not having components to feed it.

A lot of guys buy factory ammo for it and shoot it first and then reload it. The ammo I've seen, even at funshows, is pretty reasonable in price. I personally like to have some factory ammo laying around for the first few shots.

Reloading for the 6.5CM is a piece of cake! The ammo comes with the load stuck on the side of the box. Mine said a Fed 210M with 41.5gr Hodgdon H4350 and a 140 AMAX. I mean, if I can do it, I'd call it idiot proof. I followed Rob01's advice (and others) and just use the a Hornady FL sizer. I get 0.001 - 0.002" runout with that die. It works very well and is CHEAP. Hornady did a great job with this setup.

You're gonna LOVE that rifle.

my 2 cents - consider a longer barrel. You'll get more velocity. My 22" balances VERY well. When I ordered mine, if they had a 24" I would've gone that route in a heartbeat. That rifle is just awesome.

I thought about a longer barrel, but I shoot with a suppressor a lot and George told me to stick with the 20". I started ordering some factory 120's and 140's, so brass shouldn't be problem.

Hornady is doing a great job with their match ammo--its also fairly priced.

I've been shooting a GAP-10 6.5CM upper w/ 22 inch barrel and a GAP-10 308 upper w/ 22 inch barrel for the last two months. Both run flawlessly and group tight. So far, I have shot factory loaded 140gr and 120gr A-max 6.5CM ammo. I haven't yet performed a decent side-by-side comparison.

Someone else posed this question on a different forum. I figured it to be about 25 cents a round for 500 rounds if you get 10 firings out 50 cases. Since Hornady Anneals their brass I'm betting I'll be able to get 15 to 20 shots out of each piece of brass which reduces the cost per round further....

You use less powder than .308 and brass and bullets are comparable in the price/quality comparison.

Everything I've read or been able to determine says the 6.5 CM is ballistically superior for most if not all purposes.

Hornady brass is somewhat soft. Primer pockets get loose before 10 firings.
