Rifle Scopes Getting into PRS

Hi all! Im new here and just getting into PRS and realize i severly need to upgrade my optic. Currently I have a Vortex Viper PST Gen1 6-24x50 on top of my RPR 6.5 Creed. I have noticed when trying to engage different targets, the vipers eye focus is very non-forgiving, at least not to me. While shooting last week i had the oppertunity to use my buddies S&B (PMii i believe?) and the difference was unreal. What would be some good suggestions for a solid FFP optic set up for PRS for aroud 1600 and under. I have considered Athlon and Razor thus far and it seems both are good. Can't go wrong with either but for the same price I'd personally go Razor G2, and I'm a big Athlon fan.

another vote for the Gen2 Razor. Might be able to find a used Leupold Mark 5 3-18x for that money.

Definitely keep your eyes open for a used Razor gen 2. Next match look through one. Someone's bound to have one since they're the most popular scope for the sport.

I have the Athlon Cronus BTR, I really like it. I got a really good deal for it. If the vortex gen 2 was the same price I would have gone vortex. But my Athlon is great.

Bushnell DMR2 Pros are $1600 street price now, and the XRS2 is $1700. I've got both, and either one will serve you well for PRS use.

That's a hell of a price for an xrs ii with the H59. I run this exact scope on my PRS gun and it's been great.

Eye focus? Are you adjusting the eyepiece focus (which affects the reticle only) or parallax (which affects target focus)?

If you can't use a Viper PST effectively, you don't need another scope. You need training.

He means the eyebox is tiny. I had one for a bit and got rid of it pretty fast for this exact reason. It's really hard to have your cheek in the exact same spot for a wide array of different shooting positions.

That's why I asked, his complaint isn't clear but I understand he's a noob so he many not know the correct terminology.

I've spent like less than 5 min behind a PST II so I have no idea how forgiving the eye relief is (in all directions).

The Gen 2 PST's are leaps and bounds better. The eyebox for the gen 1 he has is really terrible, borderline unusable (seemingly less than +/- .25"), so I don't think this particular issue is a training issue.

I sold my Gen 1 for the same reason, very unforgiving eyebox. Gen 2 and Rzr Gen 2 are a whole different animal although the Rzr is a bit of a pig. Pretty tough though

I haven’t adjusted eyepiece since I set per vortex recommendations when I purchased years ago. I have used this scope several years for hunting and mid range bench and prone. I guess I should have said eyebox is unforgiving. Also, yes I am familiar with how to use the scope correctly. I said I’m a noob to prs, not scopes or shooting

There is a Gen II Razor with the EBR-7C reticle in the EE right now.

cheaper then your budget.

GAP has Bushnell XRS II’s for $1360 which comes with a Kestrel 5700 Sportsman. Far better glass than the Viper’s. DMR II’s with the Kestrel for $960 (better glass than the Viper IMHO also). Both have more forgiving eyeboxes.
